Can being cool really mean that much? High school kid on class field trip jumped 220 feet from the bridge and survived. Surfers helped him ashore where he walked out of the water on his own. He is being treated for minor injuries. Reports are that he is a good student.

I wonder if he will get detention for this. He may not realize it but he just used up all of the luck he would have in is life in one day.

I wonder what he told his parents????

I wonder what his friends told their parents? ('Just because Jimmy jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge doesn't mean you have to, also' ... deja vu has something similar in my own mom's voice playing in my head... )

very very lucky, at that speed if he hits the water wrong he could die from internal hemorrhaging.

I have gotten bruised and banged up hitting the water wrong from a 3 meter board and 10 meter tower during
dive team practices.

I have seen other divers hit the water wrong, swim out of the pool and collaspe and then not
remember any of it after some bad crashes. And they were not going anywhere near the speed this
kid was going when he hit the water.

no sense playing the powerball game, he has used up all his luck.

my concern for the kid would be "was this really a prank or was it a botched suicide?"

Nobody jumps off that bridge as a prank. He just did not want to admit it was a suicide attempt because he doesn't want to be locked up someplace and have people probing his brains.

So you were there when it happened and know what he was thinking?

SAN FRANCISCO -- A California Highway Patrol spokesman says investigators have recommended a psychological evaluation for a high school student who survived a 220-foot leap from the Golden Gate Bridge, although they do not believe the jump was a suicide attempt.

CHP Officer Chris Rardin says the 17-year-old boy who jumped during a class field trip Thursday should be charged with trespassing for climbing on the bridge.

He told The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa he was not at liberty to say where the boy was hospitalized or in what condition.

Surfer Chris Paicos told KGO-TV he witnessed the jump. He said the boy told him as he swam by in the water that the jump was a stunt.

That would be kind of cool, probing inside the brain of a Democrat. There are lots of 'em runnin' 'round up there you know...

The story is all the way to the bride on the bus he was telling everyone he thought it would be cool to jump....He's jumped off several 30 and 40 foot bridges before

They in fact have him locked up to do mental evaluations...he has a broken tailbone and punctured lung.

I do think it was a prank to get attention and fame but the Earthquake and tsunami stole all his thunder

I don't believe it to be a stunt. The Golden Gate Bridge is nationally known as the place where people go to jump because there is a high rate of success for suicide. Stunts are something actors do, if he did do it as a stunt to get attention, then he still needs some help cause that's just sick. Evil Knievel and his death defying stunt jumps is one thing, or somebody walking across a tight rope hundreds of feet in the air with no net below those are stunts, jumping off the Bridge? Stunt? Doubt it.

That dang bridge is scary enough to cross in a car. It has an uneven amount of lanes because they use the very middle lane as multi directional. They have it open going south in the morning and north in the evening and the only thing that seperates you and the cars going in the opposite direction is rubber cones. The lanes are only 12 ft wide instead of the normal 15 for freeways and highways. The right lane going both directions has 0% tolerance because the right lanes right side is the actual side of the bridge just before the sidewalks. Everytime I drive it i feel squeezed no matter what lane I use...it's 2 hands on the wheel 10 & 2 and don't look down if your car is tall enough to see over the edge and if you really want some vertigo look up as you go under the towers.

Gina.. I agree even if it was a prank the kid has serious mental issues...maybe some jail time and a stiff fine might shake him up a bit

He certainly wasn't thinking with the head that sits on the top of his body.....

The report today is he's being charged with trespassing and is being fined $10,000

He'll probably make that back on the Dr. Phil show

I know plenty of people with no fear and no common sense, they are not suicidal.
