If I can get tickets for Sat night and cancel dinner with my wife and friends that would be OK, right? Even if they don't understand?

Depends on whether you want to hear about it every time she gets mad.

The scary thing is my friend is higher maintanence than my wife. If I go I take my son so she'll cut me some slack

We are in synch except for music. I go with her to her concerts (dragging me to Elton John next week) studiously avoid taking her to mine

Morally and ethically, no, because the dinner was scheduled first. It was a prior commitment that you accepted. Trying to wriggle out of it because you'd rather go to the show is a little underhanded; however, there are several things to consider.

First, how close are these people you would be having dinner with?

Second, would your cancelling these dinner plans hurt your wife's feelings? If she would just be annoyed it is different than being hurt. You should talk to her before trying to get tickets, if she gives you the go ahead, then pursue the tickets. Don't get the tickets and then put her on the spot, using your son for guilt leverage.

Third, why create this conflict when there are more shows than just this one? You could get tickets to another night and not have any drama?

Fourth, if you are going to go behind her back and get tickets and do this anyway, console yourself with the notion that if your wife had the hots for Gregg she might do it to you.

Now go wrestle with your conscience.

i know this or wouldn't have posted

First, how close are these people you would be having dinner with?

good friends - very sensitive - got their ok to move to Friday but see below

Second, would your cancelling these dinner plans hurt your wife's feelings? If she would just be annoyed it is different than being hurt. You should talk to her before trying to get tickets, if she gives you the go ahead, then pursue the tickets. Don't get the tickets and then put her on the spot, using your son for guilt leverage.

she put it on my shoulders to make it work. annoyance only

Third, why create this conflict when there are more shows than just this one? You could get tickets to another night and not have any drama?

already have tickets next friday; forgot about the 40th Fillmore. with moogis more than double that night suspect more than the set list being recreated

Fourth, if you are going to go behind her back and get tickets and do this anyway, console yourself with the notion that if your wife had the hots for Gregg she might do it to you.

never go behind her back; like to live till my next birthday

Now go wrestle with your conscience.

so, after handling the situation - and dawdling since I do have a conscience - the two reasonable set of scalper tickets I was looking at literally got sold in the 5 minutes I was talking to my friend.

DO I WANT TO BE THERE ENOUGH TO BUY LAST ROW TICKETS? I WISH I WAS SOULESS AND HAD SNAPPED THOSE SEATS UP

Do you have a comfortable couch? (And I'd probably be willing to camp out on the couch if it meant I was going to be dreaming of the Beacon show I'd just attended. )

The only positive aspect of turning 50 (for a male at least) is that our capacities to tolerate a night or two on the sofa is much greater than in our testosterone charged 20's. This is made even easier for me by the fact that two of my kids are away at school freeing up other sleeping options

Thanks, I needed that. This Hamlet "To Be or Not to Be" stuff grows old fast. Emailed my son to find out if he prefers separate Orchestra Seats or the worst seats in the house.

She's not going to divorce you because you go to a concert. At this point, every ABB show is a lucky gift, and your son will always remember it. You can have dinner with your friends anytime.

If it was a band I didn't want to see, I'd tell my husband to go. Obviously if it was the ABB, I'd say the heck with the dinner.

Much easier to ask for forgiveness later than permission now.

i think you have to ask permission to go. sounds silly to ask your mate permission, but if they are counting on the dinner, then you need to ask for the blessing on a unique opportunity.

Fillmore Anniversary and Randall Bramblett as one of the guests. A rock and roll jury couldn't find him guilty with circumstances like this.

1 - Friends OK moving to Friday (making it up by cooking dinner myself)

2 - Wife OK since no one else pissed at me and taking my son who is in school in NYC and will then come home for a day.

3 - Had to go the scalper route (only things not out of worl overpriced were next to last row of orchestra or last row of the upper balcony. Unfortunately I ended paying more than I would have for 5th row loge or row O orchestra but I like being on the floor and the upper balcony weren't that much cheaper)

4 - Motto of the story - there is no such thing as a free meal - but you have to be in it to win it

5 - my prediction. Ist set is LAFE in order. Apparently Butch somewhere promised a long Mountain Jam. Might set two be a huge Mountain Jam Sandwich? The other live cuts from Eat A Peach?

6 - and for KWidgeon - on Long Island the rules are a lot tougher for husbands.

7 - for Bob1954 that NEVER works in my house.

So do I, but going to a Korean massage parlor will definitely not win me any brownie points

You have chosen well emr. I don't know exactly what's in store for Sat, but I hope it rivals 3-26-09. I am trying to tamp down expectations. Gina, Mr Bramblett is guesting on Fri, not Sat.

My son and I were there that night too. Hope the intensity level is the same.'That show was way better than the Clapton shows that year.

Just wishing I could sell my MOOGIS subscription about now. Guess I'll retire a few days later than planned
