The thing is I think they both do a great job on the song but to me when Warren does it the solo has more of a build up to it. But then again DT is unreal on it ias well. Opinions?

It's Derek on "Dreams" for me. I had serious Duane flashbacks watching Derek solo on the song from the Beacon shows. That pretty much sealed the deal for me.

have to say derek. the 6/27/03 in dc was the most surreal experience i have ever seen w/ derek on dreams. the warren solo is always ruined for me when he goes way up high w/ the slide and starts the whole high-pitched thing. its not a really a bird thing like duane did. that always drives me insane. love everything warren does except for that. on any song, i just cant stand it. to be honest i dont know anyone who does like it. anyone have any insight on why he does this. i love all mr. haynes work except for that.

Warren's solo on Dreams has moved me to tears -- more than once. That said ... Derek channels Duane and I'll take DT every time.

Multiple nights with Derek one night and Warren the second is sublime. Dreams is a totally different song on back to back nights. Dreams takes on a different personality with each of them. I also like to hear the different slide parts by each guy on Statesboro on back to back nights. These are just a few of the reasons that one night is not enough with these cats.

I'll take the flip side of that .... Derek absolutely kills me, but I'll take Warren everyday, and twice on Sunday ...

That being said, Can you believe these two guys are in the same band, recording and touring ??? Boggles the mind .....

Duane.

Yes, I cheated...& it has nothing to do with this thread. No offense to Warren or Derek.

But Derek speaks... while Warren screech!

Warren's better on songs with more "oomph". Atleast to me.

I can remember quite a few shows in the 90s where Warren blew me away completely. I enjoy them switching now. Gives a great variety.

I second HopHead's post exactly. Warren's great, but if they did Dreams every night and Derek took the solo every night, I would never complain. He has a softer touch and more dynamic range, and I think that fits the song better.

Just to build on my answer - I need to check on my collection, but I'm pretty sure I've got at least one version (probably from 2001 or 2002) that has both of them soloing in turn.

Granted, it makes Dreams take up a lot of the jamming space in the show (15-20 mins, IIRC), but it would be nice to see this repeated again sometime...

I just like it that they alternate it around. It is good to take turns!

I won't ever complain about hearing a "Dreams," that's for sure.

But that said, I have to go with Hophead here. I've been hearing it from Warren for so long, and it's moved me so many times...but the Derek "Dreams" have taken me to "that place."

You probably do, Paul. In 2001, they often both took solos. I think they'd stopped doing it by '02, though.

I hate this question because they are both so different and I love them both. I really preferred it when they BOTH solo'd in the same version. In fact, I particularly loved the 2001 versions, where they split the solos between the second two verses. That was cool!

Warren or DereK Dreams?

I Thought Gregg wrote Dreams!

Seriously on any given night, either or both
of these cats can take off.

Peace
John

Hmmm, tough question....Derek Trucks. There is not another soloist I would rather hear.

Thanks Marley - I knew I wasn't going crazy! (well, maybe a little... )

Nice to see I'm not the only one that feels that way, anyway - how about it then, guys??

To tell you the truth I like Rich Robinson's Dreams. But from the choices given Derek is my favorite.

I've seen the Crowes do a tease of Dreams but not the whole song.
That would be cool.

Peace

Asking this question is like asking a parent "which child do they love the most!" You always love them equally the same no matter which one is "better."

my preference is for just one of them to do it...one night Derek, one night warren.....
I'd also be thrilled if warren just about packed in his slide with allmans....i much prefer listening to Derek on slide...no slight on warren talent whatsoever....just my preference..

Well I gotta say, Derek for me. But what I'd really like to see is both guys get a shot on the same night...but hey thats me...I love when they s-t-r-e-t-c-h them way out!
2001 had some incredibly long and powerful Dreams where Derek and Warren both played solos. The Camden NJ show 6/21/01 is by far and away the best Dreams this lineup has done. Its over 17 minutes long and never, ever runs out of gas! On this version Gregg sings>Derek solos>Gregg sings the second verse>Warren solos>then Gregg sings the second verse again! Just a killer Dreams!
If you have this show, go play it now and see what I mean. Unbeatable...
