Hey There,

I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has seen any of the recent Jack & Reese shows would please post their reviews, impressions, comments...whatever....here.

I miss Jack and I'd love to hear this band. Unfortunately I am unable to travel to Nashville anytime soon. How about a little east cost tour? Roll on up to NYC please!!!

Merlin and Marley'
I am priviledged to live in M'boro because it allows me to see Jack and Reese every time they play. They last played on Dec. 6th at 3rd & Lindsley. (They are scheduled to play there on Dec. 20 and Jan. 16 or 17) So, I'll do my best to give my somewhat biased opinion.
In talking to Jack, he noted that they have played together as a band 10 times as of 12/6 including a few rehearsals. So, in his mind, they are still exploring the music (what fun for us listeners) and trying out tunes and such. They are recording all of their shows and Jack has been going thru the tracks with the objective of having a disc for retail ASAP. Jack knows that they must have a product in order to make any type of touring possible. He and Reese have both said that they want to get this act out of town. In addition, Jack has told me that his vision for this band is small theatres where they can stretch out and explore a wider range of tunes and styles. Jack wants to include some mandoline (Yes, he does for the mando what he does for the guitar) some classical guitar by Elizabeth, feature Reese more and bring Jim White (drums) down front as well.
Regarding their last show, (12/6) it was a diverse crowd in the club with a few notables in the house. Seynour Duncan was in attendance and Kid Rock was there as well. At the end of the 2nd set Kid wanted to sit in and do some tunes. However, Kid didn't know any blues standards and Jack and Reese don't know any Bob Seger tunes. (here's a tip for Kid; learn Sweet Liitle Angel. And a tip to Jack and Reese; don't learn any Seger stuff) But, Jack was excited that one of his musical heros was there. Mike Snider, who is a member of The Grand Ole Opry, introduced the band and stayed until he had to return to the Ryman for the late Opry. Mike is a very funny and gifted performer and Jack was very flattered to find out that Mike is a fan of his. Mike told Jack that his entire band was going to grow mustaches and wear skid lids. Jack was as excited as I have ever seen him, and I've known Jack since High School. On top of all that, the room was full of ALL age groups and it was fun to watch 50 year-olds dancing with the 20 year-oalds, It was difficult to get thru the room at times 'cause everybody was gyrating.
The music? Ahhhh...the music. A living, breathing thing. Dynamic, moving, joyful and inspired. Blues, jazz, gospel, Narlins second line stuff, boogie woogie piano, and R&B.
I know why Jack wants to be in small theatres. This is the type of music that is best enjoyed in a room without distractions. Time stands still, for me, when they start playing. And drunks chasing tail, ESPN fanatics, etc. ruins the vibe for me and the band as well.
I could go on gushing for hours, but I'll close by saying that if you can get to Nashville for the 12/20 or January date, you will not be disappointed. Meanwhile, go to Jack's website and pester him to get that disc out now!
P.S. Reese has done a taping of Austin City Limits with Los Lonely Boys that dhould be airing soon. Also, look for Reese in late summer, early fall with Double Trouble backing Buddy Guy on the B.B. King tour. Jack and Reese both say that they would like to tour in spring, early summer. See ya on the 20th!

upton - Thank you very much!! Wow, it sounds like 12/6 was a very special night. I love Jack's playing and his totally unassuming truly pure style. I am very excited to know that these great musicians are playing, collaborating and creating together. A CD would be a great gift to all of us and a small theater tour....amazing!

I hope you and everyone lucky enough to be at the 12/20 show had a blast!

Please post about the shows whenever you can. I'm sure there are many here who love to hear it.

Happy Holidays

How about Jack and Reese opening for the Brothers for the Summer '04 tour? I've missed Jack a lot since he left the brothers. The best guitar player to come through this band since Duane, IMO. Not that Warren and Derek aren't incredible together, but Jack would make my jaw drop straight to the floor every time he soloed(sp?).

That'd be great, as long as Jack gets to sit in for a big chunk of the set every night!

Working on it...

Trust me, there are some absolutely stunning moments on some of the recordings. Maybe keep those fingers crossed for late summer?

In the meantime, would anyone here be interested in some pics of the shows?

Hey all,
If you go to www.hittinthenote.com there is a nice feature article on Jack and what he's been up to for the last five years. The best part of the article is the DOWNLOAD of "Last Stop" by The Jack Pearson Band. It's a live cut from late 2003 and it is worth a listen, or two, or................

Just a little update, sorry for taking so long to get this up. I will do better after their next show.

08/14/04 the Jack Pearson Band w/Reese Wynans + surprise guests
10:00pm @ 3rd & Lindsley
Set 1
1 My Old Friend
2 I Can Fix It
3 Find A Way
4 Last Stop(instr.)
5 Everyday
6 It Won't Change A Thing
7 La Esperanza De Inez(instr.)
8 I Feel Alright
9 Highpockets(instr.)

Set 2
1 Right Where We Belong
2 Get To It(instr.) w/Dennis Wage on B-3
3 Weep And Moan w/Dennis Wage on B-3, & William House on vocals & harmonica
4 Reachin' Out w/William House on vocals and harmonica
5 Don't Feel Like Talkin' w/William House on vocals & lead guitar(Jack sat out)
6 Feel Like A Stranger Here
7 Hang on

Unfortunately, I never got to see Jack when he was with The Brothers so I guess I'm kinda trying to make up for lost time!
I also feel fortunate to have a daughter who enjoys much of the same type of music as I do- and less mainstream is always a good thing! It's great that Jack's music is appealing to a broad generation of fans. We first saw the JPB on March 12th of this year and we were both hooked.

This was the 3rd time we have seen the JPB and each time I can hear the band progressing to a new level. This gig was actually advertised as being The Jack Pearson Band with Reese Wynans, but with the help of some surprise guests, it turned out to be one of the most special nights of music I have experienced in my 25 years of concert-going!

They opened the show with "My Old Friend", a song off Jack's first album Step Out! From the opening lines of this song-
So good to see you still looking the same,
I'm glad there's someone that time hasn't changed
You're just like I used to know,
My old friend-
it always reminds me how good it is to have TRUE friends in your life. Then they played two more of those positive vibe type of songs, "I Can Fix It" & "Find A Way", both also from Step Out!

Another thing that I particularly liked about the first set was the way the band really stretched their legs on the 3 instrumentals. On "La Esperanza De Inez", which on the album is played acoustically by Jack, here he sticks with the Legacy, but still maintains those beautiful Spanish sounding notes. There is also alot of call and response type playing between he & Reese on this tune as well as a very cool drum solo by Jim White.

Jack's wife, Elizabeth, plays bass and does it very well! She has great tone and plays alot of notes without overplaying. I find myself watching her hands and focusing on her playing alot during their shows. When we saw them in July she wasn't feelin' well, but still did a fine job. It was great to see her feelin' better for this show.

The 2nd set had a lot more blues in it along with a couple of Jacks surprise guests, neither of which were strangers to the JPB. Dennis Wage replaced Reese for a couple of songs- not quite as over the top as Reese, but a great player still. For those that have the William House/JP CD, you have heard William's harmonica playing and his singing. He also plays on a few tunes on Jack's other 2 CD'd. William really added to the blues numbers and even played Jack's guitar as well as sang on "Don't Feel Like Talkin'". Jack even took a break during this song showing even more that he isn't concerned with always being at the center of this musical experience.

This was another great performance by the Jack Pearson Band and we can't wait to see them in Atlanta. For those of you who would like to purchase some of Jack's CD's you can find them on his web site or go directly to CD Baby.

Thanks Jack and God bless you

The Jack Pearson Band featuring Reese Wynans will be playing this Sat. night Oct 9th at 10:00pm at 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill in Nashville. They have a pretty good menu & you can order 'till 11:00, but IMO the most smokin' thing on the menu will be Jack's music- only problem is it's gonna leave you starvin' for more! There's a link to a map and their phone # on 3rd's web site.

Maybe more later, too!
