Good job Tim! That's some serious mileage you're putting in.

Decided at the last minute to go to the pool today. Not one of my best efforts but I got my laps in and felt pretty good afterwards. Workouts before the Super Bowl are a good thing considering we'll be indulging in food and drink during the game.

Congrats alloak41! Here's to staying with your plan and making the most of it!

Thank you! Just got back from the facility. Forty five minutes on the treadmill and some weights afterwards. I've gotten in five good sessions in six days and it feels great. I'm all in!

Epic run today. Perfect weather: partly cloudy, cool temps, and fresh, clean air. Legs just kind of did their thing so I went with it. It was one of those workouts where it all came together. Ended up running almost 7 miles in 45 minutes. Included two btch climbs. All that being said, I'm glad it's out of the way!

I hope everyone else is enjoying their exercise and making the most of it. Cheers!

2000 yards in the pool today. Mixed and matched sets. Did a 500 free in less than 9:30. Tomorrow is back out on the pavement.

Tough day at the office. It was/is HOT out; much warmer than I expected. Decided for the 7 miler switch back which was probably more than I should have. Fortunately, I just backed off the pace and took it easy. The cool shower felt good.

For anyone dealing with the severe winter weather right now, I hope you all have power and are safe. Don't drive unless you need to.

For all sorts of reasons, it was an off and on week. Fortunately today, I nailed it. Swam 2000 yards this morning and then ran 5 miles at lunch. I Rocked It on both accounts. Chillin' now!

Been a good week so far. Tomorrow will be a morning swim and then a lunch time run. It's supposed to rain too. Runs in the rain are the best... the rain takes your mind off the pain!

Got my Friday 7 miler in. It was a bit windy but running on the trails was nice. The recent rains are starting to make the hills green.

Missed a swim workout this week. Hoping to get in the pool tomorrow or Sunday and make up for it.

I see this thread died a long time ago, did a search on memory and was shocked how long it has been. Many probably don't hang here anymore.

Is anyone doing well on fitness and health? It gets challenging as we age for sure.

I lost 40 pounds since this thread, came back from a blown knee and surgery. But most exciting: I am a Personal Trainer now, passed my test a few days ago. Look forward to helping the over 40 crowd to fitness. Have learned so much on the holistic aspect of fitness. It is so much more than I knew. Structural, movement, then overlay the rest after correcting the foundation. And diet is so important. Not just quantity but what.

wishing fitness and health to all

Thanks Bird. Good to see you too Danny!

Tuesday swim today. 2400 yards.

Had to layoff running for a few months due to a calf injury. Just started up again last week. I'm in no hurry. Just great to get outside again and work up a sweat.

Good to see this one back. Congrats on becoming a certified trainer Bird!

I am still running, though in fits & starts (some injuries plus having a 1 year old at home has had something to do with that). I have a target 5K coming up early June and then the Peachtree Rd Race 10K on July 4.
I promised myself I wouldn't sign up for another marathon until my true weekly base mileage was up to 30 (and the marathon being 6 months out from that point). I'm nowhere near that now so I'm 2018 at the earliest for another one....if at all!

I will be doing two my favorite jogs later this week. Friday & Saturday mornings at the Spriit of Suwanee Music Park. In a 35 minute jog you can see so much!

Best to you guys!

Good to see you too Tim! Sorry you had to cut back on your running but it happens (much to my chagrin). Sounds like you're getting back in the groove though. Enjoy the Wanee runs!

Congrats Tony!

I'm still jamming away, doing lots of different things to keep fit. I stopped running because it really started to wear on my feet and quite frankly I never really enjoyed it anyway...

Recently started swimming which is very hard, but I'm getting into it and like the way it makes me feel. Taking spin classes a couple of times a week. Doing lots of tabata workouts and HIITs. Lifting, etc.

I think what I'm most proud of from a fitness and wellbeing perspective is that my eldest son just got certified as a personal trainer and my 2 younger guys (15 and 16) are complete gym rats too. It's very satisfying to see that and it's a great common bond that we all have that will hopefully be sustained throughout our lives together.

Keep movin' everybody! And let's keep this thread going!

i've been running(on treadmill),using intervals/incline,about 5 & a half miles 4-5 times a week.Sometimes adding stationary bike.

weights & resistance work-3-4 times weekly.

too much inactivity during the day..wish i moved more & with better weather hoping to keep moving in between daily workouts...

A word on diet...read a great article about a year ago in a medical journal,"You Can't Outrun What You Eat"...the title says it all...

I cheat, but my basic diet is vegetables, fruits, lean proteins(beans,fish,chicken,turkey,nuts,tofu)...I avoid white foods, breads, pasta, sugar, processed foods..i take some supplements recommended by my docs and nutrition folks I know who have been kind enough to educate me over the years...

The coolest thing I learned recently was that we can all increase aerobic capacity at any age...read article of 100 year old man wh did it...adapted as one of my fitness goals...

Very true Do2! Any age. The same is true of muscle strength and endurance. They did a study of resistance training "newbies" of young 20ish age groups and senior age groups. While some younger may have had more initial strength, the amazing fact found is the rate of gains, and percent increase of relative strength gains was EQUAL between young and old.

thanks Bird-that's an encouraging study too keep in mind..although the strength gains are nice to hear I still thought(incorrectly?) that its easier for younger folks to develop & maintain muscle growth? any thoughts?

we all have our window of peak performance tied to youth, but no, muscle strength and losing it with sedentary are same regardless of age. Powerlifting style lifting levels taper with age , beyond that, no it is no harder for older person to maintain gains than a young one. I believe in kindness to body with age, so single rep max lifts are for young bucks IMO. One can build substantial muscle in the 8-12 rep range with intensity regardless of age.

Dadof2 you nailed it. My biggest mistake for so many, many years was not realizing how much diet and nutrition factored into the equation. It plays a huge part..

I feel I should add that there is with aging a testosterone level reduction in men. That is tied to why peak performance and strength is age related. But atrophy is a bigger factor than reduced hormone in aging bodies. Resistance training will get the hormonal system operating at max potential so it will help in that sense regardless of age. Testosterone affects max strength levels and hypertrophy (muscle size) potential, but regardless of age, benefits are great. It also gets the heart strength and vascular network in better shape, so health benefits beyond strength and appearance are the biggest health gain.
