I love his stuff since 1970 and I would see him in my town tomorrow. I could care less what anyone says...I could care less what he drinks.....I care that I would be seeing him live.......That's it!!

Regardless of how anyone feels about the dynamics of the breakup (still) , or about Dickey's musical performances these past few years (I've seen some real smokers, myself), the man has earned the right to some permanent respect here, if only for the fact that he helped keep the ABB together through some really bad times. I'd throw in the fact that he refuses to air any of his personal feelings about past events in public.

Class act.

No brainer.

No doubt.... But we should all feel free to draw our own line in the sand....The respect you refer to above while well earned, is not a free pass exempting he or his music from criticism...people will write things here that some will not appreciate and some will never hear the greatness others still claim is there......Man, that is just the way it goes.

No one can dismiss the incredible legacy of DB. Some of the best songs ever written, an incredibly unique and beautiful sound; you could certainly say we would not have had the ABB without DB.
I do agree that people should feel free to offer honest reviews, of any band, of course. The ideal would be speaking respectfully and maturely, to each other as well.

I find it tough to figger WHAT to make of reviews of Dickey shows. There are so many things to consider:

* die-hards who will say every show is great
* shows that really ARE great
* shows that are great if you consider that we have an older performer (the BB King rule)
* shows that are mediocre but that some would still call excellent
* shows that are mediocre but that some insist were awful
etc.

I guess that is the beauty of music, the way it sinks into each person differently depending on that person's mood, expectations, experience, buzz or lack thereof, which seat they get, etc.

I'd say that the latter-day Dead and then their offshoorts would be a closer fit.

Gregg was hit and miss for many moons, but sobriety seems to have led him to be much, much more consistently "on" in the past few years. In the 90s, it was a different story!

Claude hasn't said anything, so why are you disrespecting him?

It was still disrespectful to Claude. Just because he's been the poster boy for abuse since the F*x incident is no reason to continue that trend.

Hi Dean.

whoever it is that wrote this,is not totally wrong...

but,if you read the original post the intent was to argue against blind love that can't make clear headed reviews...

i actually read a post here where someone said they'd listen to Gregg "read the newspaper" if he released that...

gimme a break, not everything the ABB or family bands do is perfect or even good....

so i can love the artist but hate the particular work...

doesn't make me or anyone any less a fan...

And therein lies the issue. Music is art to the ears, and beauty is in the ear of the beholder. What's wrong with being "brand loyal?" ABBsolutely nothing.
