I think this is worth the 450 price tag. I won't be buying it but I think its worth the 450 for the completist in your family.

The only thing is some of the Dead.net CD's are copy protected and cannot be played on anything other than a CD Player. Don't know if you will be able to extract tracks for a "car CD", or download to an MP3 Player.

Depends on the packaging, I suppose ? Would be nice if t had some of the TV footage from various sources during the tour and at least a DVD worth of concert stuff. My .02

Wow, this would be incredible. Way out of my price range, but still cool to know that if I win the lotto or something in the next few months it's available!

As only a pseudo Dead Head (don't own a VW micro bus, don't like quesadelias, have a job to tend to), that's just more 'Dead than I can imagine listening to. I mean, I'd run out of microdot eventually.

Let's make a comparison:
Who's got the Beacon 2009 40-anniversary box-set?
Is this GD'72 so much different?

For me, I've passed on the ABB boxset en will pass on the GD-set.
It's just too much. I won't listen to it often enough to justify the costs.
I'll stick to single shows (ABB) and a compilation (GD) and have most if not all of the mentioned ABB & GD shows as audience recordings "somewhere" on DVD's.

However I can imagine that lots of people cann't resist these really magnificent boxsets, and I'm really pleased for them that the opportunity is there! Enjoy!

No thanks. Part of the fun that was collecting live shows back in the day was that they were free to be traded. I recall being stoked when I got the Allman Brothers "Ludlow Garage"show back in the early 70's. I remember listening to the Grateful Dead show I believe Jerry Moore taped back in 74 at the Miami Jai Lai. The "Playin In The Band" was like 29 minutes. Fun times. I have many soundboards from the Europe 72 tour, and even some soundboards from later years when they went back. I think after all is said and done, a good matrix or a Jerry Moore audience tape is as close as you can get to what it was like to be there. And that's the point, right? Not to pay 450 bucks for a sonically cleansed digital remaster. But hey that's just my opinion, right?

Good question- I purchased the '73 Winterland Boxed Set from them a year or so ago and was able to download tracks onto my iPod. never tried to dub a cd though...

download the shows for free from bt.etree.org before they take away the soundboard privileges like over at archive.org. Don't tell the band.

450 bucks????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY out of my price range. Probably comes with some nice photos though.

Charlie Miller has done a great job with taking out the generations and uploading some great soundboards for the deadhead community. Look for his name and give a listen.
Thanks, Charlie!

For over 60 discs and 22 shows, $450 is really a steal.

Although I'm not saying $450 is easy to come by and spend all at once for music.

I've never had problems with copy protection on any GD cd's.

SOLD OUT IN 4 DAYS!

from www.dead.net

Hey now! Due to overwhelming demand, surprising even those of us with huge faith in the Europe '72 project, the entire limited edition run of 7,200 boxed sets has sold out in less than 4 days. We thank you beyond words for your support and belief in this unprecedented and wonderful release.

After lengthy discussions, we've decided we don't want to deprive anyone of this music, some of the finest the Grateful Dead ever performed. Of course, we're keeping to our promise that the boxed set and all of its accouterments will not be made available beyond these 7,200 boxed sets (and wait until you see the case in which the music is housed, the hard-bound coffee-table book, plus all of the other cool surprises we've been unearthing!). But, we're going to offer just the music, all 22 shows, more than 60 CDs, more than 70 hours of music, each show housed in its own packaging, for the same price as the boxed set, $450 including domestic shipping. Although perhaps not as cool as the boxed set, the bottom line is that the most important aspect of Europe '72: The Complete Recordings is going to be made available to all, the music

I would only pay $450 for this if they could somehow erase Donna's vocals.

In all seriousness I bought the Fillmore set a few years back. The 10 disc mondo set was just too much for me. I sold it and bought the three disc highlight reel. Perfect.

My remastered Europe '72 and the handful of vault releases from the tour are all I need. I'm sure the special housing and coffee table book will be decadent, but then again I'm from the time when being a deadhead was about simplifying your life.
