Agree with some on the list - disagree with others (and if this is in order of greatness then Layla is too low on list IMO)

Some others I like...

Doors ... Roadhouse Blues
Freddie King ... Going Down
Whos ... Pinball Wizard

Sometimes, it's a matter of taste. Most of the author's is in his mouth.

For me, Layla and Jessica should be nearer to the top. As great as the riffs are, Iron Man and even Satisfaction should be a few notches lower. My opinion, of course.

Lolasdeb, I love your picks! Time Waits for No One - especially the solo just might be Mick Taylor's finest job with the 'Stones. I was a HUGE Ten Years After fan as a teenager! Alvin's riffin' on I'm Goin Home - especially the Woodstock version is amazing! More so because he and practically every artist at the show were trippin' their nads off! I read an interview with TYA bassist, Leo Lyons a few years back. Seems like all the backstage food and drink had been spiked without any of the performers being aware. Some interesting performances from that fest'!

Santana's Europa is another masterpiece! If you get a chance to se Barry Richman - he does a great job on that one!

Missing from the list (so many could be on there ) was Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover.

To me, there's nothing better than:
1. Layla
2. Jessica

The most beautiful (Layla) and the most joyous (Jessica) songs I've ever heard. Many others to follow.

We're lucky to live in an age where we can just click on the songs in the list and listen for free!

For my part, I can't believe I can't find "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'".

I don't think of Derek as a riffmeister, but maybe I think of riff differently.

I would have put much more Zepp, AC/DC, Purple, and Sabbath above. Those guys are the riff-masters. And yes, the absence of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is a travesty. The opening RIFF of that song pouring out of your stereo speakers LOUD is the essence of rock music.

^^^

I would have to say that Keith is the ultimate riff-master

Keith and the obvious masters aside, here's a couple of riffs that are incredible even if the
songs aren't:

Although I can't really stomach the rest of the song, the opening riff of "Money for Nothing" by
Dire Straits is solid gold, and riff-wise, again overlooking the poverty of the parent material,
I would have to throw in Slash's opener to "Sweet Child of Mine".

Pretty basic, but I always dug the raunchy guitar riff on Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) by Neil Young.
