Widespread Panic tickets went quickly yesterday for their 3 anniversary shows - 2 in Athens and one at the Fox Theater. What occurred to me is how they are making sure to commemorate their 25 years by doing these intimate shows for their hometown fans. Comes in contrast to another favorite band of mine...

Plus... tickets are $50, certainly not gouging at those prices. I'll be going to two of them; cant wait!

Humor us that aren't in the know....should we assume you are referring to The Fox in Atlanta? And, when are these shows?

They are playing one night at the Fox in Atlanta. Friend and I tried immediately when tickets went on sale for 30 minutes and couldn't come up with one single pair. Some thing with my neighbor across the street.

Tickets may only be $63, but you'll be paying just as much as the ABB Beacon tickets (aftermarket) unless you were one of the lucky ones who pulled a seat in the regular sale. They could do 4 shows there easily considering they are winding it down and this may be their last stop in Atlanta.

JoJo Hermann mentions it in an interview late Sept 2010
http://www.jambands.com/news/2010/09/29/another-widespread-panic-hiatus

John Bell talks about it a week later but doesn't completely refute it. Not sure if there is a mroe recent update:

edited to change the date of the Hermann interview, which was just a few months ago...

Seems like everyone is talking hiatus or (winding it down) these days... Black Crowes, WSP, Allman Brothers... But I don't worry too much because most of these road warriors always seem to resurface somehow or other. Just look at the Dead.

Hey Tim, good luck finding tickets to these shows but I read somewhere that they plan to get through Atlanta again in 2011 so I don't imagine it will be there last shows here this year. But, if they do return for their New Years run that would be quite a wait for a Georgia show, their last being September of last year.

Hope they venture out again before making any drastic moves.

JB has said in another interview since JoJo spilled the beans that the hiatus is "nothing major", just a little break to recharge batteries.....I'm thinking that after New Year's eve 2011, we probably won't see them again until late fall 2012.....not that big of a deal.

These guys don't have PHD's to fall back on. WSP is a business and as such, they will continue to get all that they can out of it....

Jimmy Herring certainly seems like the kind of road warrior who will carry on, and for me, he is the main attraction of this band, not to take anything away from the others - the bassist is killer too.

Tim, thanks for the links. i've been out of the loop since digital panic and s'net changed up several months ago, so that was news to me.

Soup's right, those guys will be out there playing in some way, shape or form because that's what's in their blood. they've been to hell and back and survived several crazy situations over their 25 years that could have disbanded the band. Like Sunny once said, they are a like a self cleaning oven when it comes to those kind of things, and they just get it together, crank up the heat and come out the other side stronger and wiser.

not one straw there gonna break his back, not one straw there gonna break his back...

The Last Straw - from Mom's Kitchen

Straw can bury us
We can carry the hay
But straws can break
Like the reasons for my behavior

Straws mend
And straws bend
And dry ones catch like
A secret worth never paid for

Strong muscles
My strong muscles
Plowman, come and dig my farm
It's only making my body sneeze

Straaaawwwwwwwww

Straw can bury us
We can carry the hay
But you better jump right now
Cause these brakes left some sparks
And now the wagon's caught fire

Let's jump up on the camel's back
Not one straw there gonna break his back
Not one straw there gonna break his back
Just the weight of five short men

Let's jump up on the camel's back
Not one straw there gonna break his back
Not one straw there gonna break his back
Just the weight of six young men
