Another great review- it sounds like a born classic. Can't wait to hear the full album on a decent system. I'm thinking I might have to invest in some vinyl

"I say “almost” because the CD contains only one original song, while Live at Fillmore East was all about Allman Brothers originals."

has the reviewer heard At Fillmore East? 4 of 7 tunes were covers. As a reviewer you should try not to lose credibility in the first paragraph.

I posted this earlier in another thread concerning the reviewer's (Don Wilcock) comments about the Fillmore East.

quote:
I think what Don Wilcock means is not only Allman Brothers orginals but also the Allman Brothers ability to bring an "orginial take" on the blues classics they covered. Got to admit the Allmans were able to make these songs, their own, and that is rare talent indeed.

Btw, Don Wilcock is very knowledgable reviewer, especially in regards to blues music and artists, which the Allman Brothers "at heart" have always been about. What Gregg is doing on "Low Country Blues" is essentially bringing his take on some classic blues which has inspired him throughout his career, and in that regards, it's not all that different than what the Allman's did on "Fillmore East". Thus the comparison between the two recordings is apt.

He's probably very knowledgeable but even when you think you know a band intimately you should still fact check and edit your work so it matches the facts. As a reviewer myself for HTN and American Blues News (www,ameriblues.com) I feel obligated to get the facts right even in an opinion piece like a review. Other than that I'm glad he liked it. I can't wait to hear it. I have ticket for Penn's Peak which got moved to 1/22/11. I saw him there the last few years and it's always excellent. His 2006 show got my wife into the music and now she goes to all the shows with me.

Lately T-Bone Burnette has been having an almost cookie-cutter type sound production on the stuff he's produced almost to the point of over-shadowing the artist. I hope this isn't the case with Allman. I liked it with Plant/Krause on Raising Sand, but it got a little overpowering with John Mellencamp's latest.

That said, I really am looking forward to this.

I listened to "searching for simplicity" today in the car, simply the best he's ever done.

I love that one as well and I probably listen to it as often as any ABB record and more so than any of his other solo records.
