It is hit or miss with him.
I have been at the Beacon door several times and never was able to stop Gregg or Butch for a signature.

Gregg will sometimes stop and sign , I found him very friendly the few times he has signed for me , Butch on the other hand LOL no luck but I don't really care anyhow . Once at the Beacon after a show I asked Butch to sign a cd he walked over like he was going to sign then looked at my cd and said no and walked away .

He signed the setlist for us after the last Clearwater show. I didn't ask for the list. Farmer just handed it to me!

Never had any luck w/ Gregg. Love the "rock star strut" comment.

Better luck with Dickey. Surprised re: Butch. I've only met him a couple of times and he was very humble, down to earth. I didn't ask him to sign anything though.

Gregg stopped and signed autographs for everyone who wanted one after the DAR show, all I wanted to do was shake his hand and say thank you (which I did)

He also can be quite the arse if he doesn't like who else may have signed something.
I have a set list I've had everyone sign over the years. From Allman to Haynes, even Tom Dowd. Of course it also has Dickey's sig on it. When I approached Butch to sign it, he saw Dickey's sig, then proceeded to sign it in an area where his name couldn't be read.
I was not at all surprised.

I think your best bet is to just be patient.....go early, don't be with a lot of people. Don't hassle him with Autographs, then Pictures, then more autographs. I seem to recall he is a bit hesitant to sign stuff, because he doesn't want to see it up on EBay for a profit. It's not because he is just being a Rock Star. Then again, maybe sometimes he is. If your patient and polite, and aren't a pest, I think Gregg will be more than happy to sign it for you. And if, worse case scenario, you need to ask another Band Member, or a Manager etc to bring it to him, well before he goes on, I am sure he would sign it. I did that once with Lynyrd Skynyurd, and I didnt want to be a pain in the Ass, so I asked if they could bring my Street Survivors Album in and have them all sign it, and they were happy to oblige. If there are a ton of people though, all waiting to get Autographs, then , your kinda on your own. Best of luck.

How's that for luck?!
That lp was only out 3 days before the plane crashed.

Funny you say that because Gregg had already signed my cd , I certainly hope that is not why Butch would not sign it but something changed his mind , it really was quite odd . Anyhow its in a cd frame in my office and looks fantastic with Gregg's aotograph .

The insert, listing the tour, is what is worth more than the album....

I had 2 copies, with inserts. I gave up 1 for auction for Bobo.

Gregg signed for about 10 people after the Beacon shows with Clapton. He even talked with us for a few minutes but he was very clear that he would not sign guitars. He seemed nice enough to me and collecting autographs is my major hobby so I've met a decent amount of people, albeit briefly in many cases. He signed tickets and Wannee/Moogis postcards. Butch said he couldn't sign because he was "f**king tired" He deserved the rest after that one!!!!

In related news, I have in-person autographs from all of the current band members except for Butch. Derek has always been very humble and nice enough to sign and Warren too. Oteil and Marc also sign fairly easily. Jaimoe can be a bit tougher but he will sign if you are polite and nice at times. Hopefully, I will get Butch this year at the Beacon...we shall see.

Greg signed one autograph for a fan sitting in the middle of the front row last night in Richmond after the set was over. She got up, held up a fairly large photo or album cover and he walked over signed it and moved on. A couple of other people then tried to get him to sign, but he just kept moving. When I got the set list after the show, Dave said now take this around to the side and have the band sign it when they come out, but I had a 2 hour drive back so I had to move on down the line. He seemed to be in very good spirits last night. There were a lot of people at the stage door waiting when we walked past though.

Gregg signed a ticket for me at the Beacon in 2005, and he seemed happy to do so.

Gregg has signed a copy of HTN for my wife outside the Beacon and her ticket outside the Tower Theatre this past November. There were a lot of people clamoring for his signature and I'm sure it gets overwhelming sometimes. And these days people will sell everything and anything and now famous people like Gregg are cautious about what they sign and for whom. I'm sure he'd rather sign something for a fan than an ebay reseller but how can he tell?

It's best to try to get an autograph after, rather than before a show. There's always a little pre-gig pressure, getting ready, going over the setlist, etc. Asking one of the band members or another member of the tour group is probably a good idea. Of course, always be respectful and someone will surely help you out with this.

Jaimoe is the man. I've seen him stand outside the backdoor at the Beacon for half an hour, talking, signing autographs; no rock star quirks there. And then he's come out on stage before the show to do the same and shake a few hands.
Sometimes it's about ego, resentments, and then sometimes it's just about the crew trying to get them in or out. Remember, especially in New York, there are wackos everywhere. Gregg stands out in a crowd because of who he is and how he looks. If I were him, it would be get ouf of the car and in the back door as quickly as possible and vice versa. He didn't undergo a liver transplant just to get himself shot at by some jerk.

I did get Jaimoes autograph at the Beacon on the way into the show, but Warren was the true gentleman. He signed everything each and every fan had at the door, even a guitar some guy was carryiing around, and took the time to shake hands and talk to the fans. Gregg and Butch just ignored all of us.
