Trane, nice. Would have expected a little Aerosmith in there.

Leaves a lot of obvious for tonight. Thorazine opener? I'm looking forward to the new unplayed covers.

Gotta rest. It's gonna be a long one.

The place has become very schizo on the security front. Large police presence in lobby early. Enforcement however was non-existent in orchestra during show--a surprise. Other recent shows at Beacon not so lax--impossible to predict what it will be like.

Great show--that part is easy to understand and predict

They preceded this with a killer 'Devil Likes It Slow' so they had to exorcise the Beacon after that!

This night was great. Brad Whitford was killing it. Joe Perry seems to get all the press in that band, and I am not sure why after being in the house for this show. Train Kept a Rollin was great. And is it me or does Hidalgo sound very much like Winwood?

It truly was a Mule Past Present and Future. I loved hearing Train with the St. Stephen jam in there. It took me back to the early days of the Mule. Devil Likes it Slow was also nasty. I love that tune.

This was, BY FAR, the best Mule show I've seen in the last 8 years. The first set was like my dreams setlist. Actually second set was amazing as well. Makes me regret not hitting more Mule shows in the last year. Will be looking forward to their return.

And don't forget that I'm A Ram was written by Rev. Al Green.

He sounds like a weak voice breaking version of Winwood. My ONLY complaint about that brilliant show is that Warren should have handled all the vocals on Presence of the Lord. That was one epic Mule show.

After listening again I actually like Hidalgos vocals but I really dig the nuances he adds to the song on guitar. I had been waiting quite a while to get that one live and it lived up to all my expectations!!!

I normally like his singing also, with Los Lobos. But he seemed a bit tentative. Perhaps he wasn't really expecting to sing. In any event Warren is a superior vocalist and that is one of the songs he kills so I would have liked to have heard him sing the whole thing. An extremely minor quibble. I also like Hidalgo's playing. Very few people who jam with the Mule are not up to snuff.

I think you might be right, because I recall just before he took his verse, it was like he was not expecting it. Warren sorted of gestured toward him to start singing.

I noticed David H kept pointing to Warren to sing, it was pretty funny, sometimes Warren noticed and other times Warren didn't. Great song selection for Mr. Los Lobos to play, I never expected to hear Presence of the Lord & Jesus just left Chicago.

Yes I noticed that too. Hidalgo seemed tentative the whole time singing wise, he even messed up the extremely simple words. This leads me to believe that Warren sprang the singing thing on him at the last second. Guitar slinging guests don't normally sing in these situations. Warren rarely sings when he jams with other bands. Hidalgo actually does have a pretty decent voice with a high end range so I would not want to give the impression I think he is a lousy singer. Just would have liked to hear Warren sing that whole one.

By the way, one of the great parts of the night was I Shall Return>Drift Away>I Shall Return. I think I Shall Return may be one of my favorite Mule songs and one they play so rarely. I am thinking the only other time I have seen them play I Shall Return was at the Dose release party in Irving Plaza. Maybe there was one other time after that. I found that to be a real treat at the Beacon the other night.

I Shall Return was GREAT. Its probably my favorite Mule song and I may have heard it once live, so rarely played. It just sounded great. I had a rough 2010 and that song really hit the spot.
LONG LIVE THE MULE!

I posted on FaceBook that the 12/30 show was the best Mule show that I have seen and I only started seeing shows 7 years ago.

In nearly 40 shows I have never heard them play it live before 12/30.
