Both are playing Boston next Thursday and Friday. Unfortuantely I can only do one... Who to pick? I have never seen either live.
I love Eric Krasno and have seen him play with the Meters and Lettuce.
I absolutely love what I hear on Jam On from Moe, especially the live stuff.

No idea what show to go to? I wish I could do one Thursday and one Friday but already have NYE plans.
Any suggestions?

I would check out Soulive....Krasno is a monster. Moe. will either be hit or miss, I've seen Moe. shows that I left totally blown away.....and then I've probably walked out of at least a handful as well. When they're on, they're phenomenal.....when they're off, they rival a garage band with no consistency.

Moe bores me to tears, so I could be a little biased, BUT Soulive is amazing. Krasno is great, Neal Evans is the Hendrix of the B3. He's really one of the greatest musicians I've ever seen. Love the way that guy plays the bass keys.

I love both bands, and have seen both many times before (although I haven't seen either in a couple of years). If I were in your situation, I think I'd go see Soulive just because they're a guaranteed A+. Moe. will come around again, go see them next time.

I am actually sort of surprised that this was so one sided. I was leaning more towards Moe. and because of this definitely more towards Soulive...
Soulive is also $10 cheaper and the beers are a lot cheaper at the Paradise then they would be at the HOB, where Moe. is playing.

I think you guys helped me make up my mind!

If anybody else wants to put in their input please feel free!

Do you have a third choice? If not go with Soulive. Moe is only good for kicking the ABB up a notch.

absnj is referring to when moe. opened for the ABB and a moe. fan posted on this website that they would "make the ABB kick it up a notch." I'm sure you can imagine how well that was received here, Mule75.

Glad to see so much love for Soulive on this thread! I was going to add another vote, but it seems academic at this point. I saw both bands at Bear Creek, and while that may have been the best moe. show I've ever seen, I still have to go with Soulive.

If you like Soulive, both Neal Evans and Eric KRasno also play in a band called Lettuce that is even better. Hands down, best funk band on Planet Earth. Their set with the JB horn section was a highlight at Bear Creek.

Yeah Rob, that was funny. I think that was during the 2005 summer tour. I saw a few of those shows and thought moe. was really good. Liked their jamming.

Then I saw them a few times afterwards and I thoguht I was watching / hearing a different band. Seemed like they did a 180 on their sound. I actually walked out of a show at The Chicago Theatre. I would however give them another shot though.

Along those lines, I have seen a few bands as an opener and really liked them. Then I saw them as the headliner after and they seemed to let their true colors show. Galactic comes to mind. Loved them on the summer tour opening for the ABB. Saw them after that and they were leaning toward a hip hop kind of thing.

Almost like the bands try to play to the audience as an opener and play as they really want to when they can. Just my perception.

One of the highlights! Although that set is somewhere in my top 3, any set that Fred, PeeWee and/or Maceo sat in for was fantastic. Those guys rock!!

This is a tough choice but right now I'd go see Soulive. Tomorrow's answer maybe moe as both are good bands

I like Soulive, but they need to hire a bass player. Ok, he can play the bass on keys. So what. It is kind of like Martin, Medeski and Wood sometimes, as in sounding like studio tracks laid down without the rest of the jam on top. And, if they also hired a percussionist they'd be slamming.

Yeah, I think they would sound even better if they rounded out the band, but with the way the economy is nowadays those extra mouths to feed really cut into the bottom line...

Sounds like a win/win decision to me. My pick would be moe.
