Wonder if those dates at RCMH on March 25 & 26th will affect the ABB announcing any more dates at the Beacon?

personally i think this is a kick in the balls to the ABB from furthur, i mean do you really hafto play NYC the same exact dates as ABB? i mean its generally the same fan base, and now people are gonna decide weather to see one show or the other, and the ABB tickets other then the Fridays and Saturdays hasn't sold out OR if they add new dates it will be in direct competition. im a fan of both but if i had to decide and was only going one night id pick the ABB band every-time, but now i since i was planning on going to 3 or 4 beacon shows i will only go to 2 so i can have leftover funds for Furthur. im just saying if i was Gregg that **** would piss me off, i mean there isnt enough days in the year? gotta be the same exact week???

Huh? You think Furthur goes around with the intent of pissing off other bands? And do you think Gregg even thinks about such things? These dates will have no bearing on the band personally or otherwise. If anything, it might give them a chance to invite a special guest for a night.

Although, if you want to stir the pot, here is a good line from Billy Kreutzmann:

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann—who’s currently touring with his band 7 Walkers—shared his thoughts on Furthur in a story by The Press Republican that was released today.
“I haven’t really got much interest in them. They sound just like the other bands out there doing it. What do you call those bands that copy other bands—” Kreutzmann said. “Anyways, I don’t feel they’re doing anything really new with their music.”
Kreutzmann went on to say, “The saddest thing is that they (Furthur) hired a guitar player that’s not Warren Haynes. It’s too bad. They should have hired a great solo guitar player.”
The drummer last made his rounds with former GD bandmates Bob Weir and Phil Lesh—and guitarist Warren Haynes—in 2009 as The Dead. Furthur, which consists of Lesh and Weir, plus newcomers John Kadlecik (Dark Star Orchestra) and drummer Joe Russo (Benevento/Russo Duo), formed and began touring that same year.
7 Walkers will next play on December 9 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, while Furthur will ring in the New Year at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

lol Jim, i totally disagree. i know about 5 or 6 people who were gonna do Allman brothers beacon shows, and now they are changing their plans because furthur is in town. now those people were gonna do more then one Allman show, but now only doing 1 Allman, and about 3 furthur. now thats just a few people i know, and im sure there are plenty more out there. the Allmans haven't sold out every show this run, fact. the Allmans haven't added more dates yet, fact. now if you don't think this effects ticket sales, then really you need to take some business classes sir. and the fact you think that they are gonna play together is off base too, how so? there are 8 Allman dates and furthur is playing the same exact nights of 6 of them. its not gonna happen. now if these shows were sold out it wouldn't matter, but they are not, and adding new dates were based on these ticket sales. now im not trying to "stir the pot" these are just facts, and if i were gregg id be pissed bottom line.

as for mister billy, the HYPOCRITE, hes just pissed they are going on without him, gimme a break even when it was with Warren, they were STILL just a cover band, playing jerry songs. if im not mistaken before warren there were a few other guitarist they had and billy didn't mind drumming then, "other ones" anyone? and to be perfectly frank they are better off with the new guy he is younger faster and revives the band, he sounds like 2 drummers if you ask me

Long time Deadhead (45+ years). Ditto for the ABB. Just saw Further last month. It was a good show - I enjoyed it more than I expected to given recent shows I've seen and danced the night away but IMO it didn't even come close to the quality and excitement of an ABB show. The guitar player - have enjoyed seeing him in DSO but he is nowhere near the caliber of the guitar players in ABB ... none of the Further guitarists are. To me, the background vocalists and Jeff C. made a huge contribution in giving this new line-up a good sound with vocals being another ABB strength (I will admit that Bobby sounded better than I've heard him sound in quite some time and I think those supporting vocalists wrapping their sound around his has a lot to do with that). I don't think the Bros have anything to worry about.

well put,Deb--i've seen Furthur 2x in the past 6 months & their shows were fun,but not exactly epic--a word thrown around all too often.

in a nutshell,Furthur is a very nice cover band,nothing more.Phil thunders,great keyboards,& excellent backups for Bob's ever worsening voice, & a good copycat,albeit unoriginal guitarist.

all this makes me miss Garcia....too soon gone...

even in the 60's i never cared for Billy's drumming much.....the Furthur drummer was indeed a nice fit for that band.

as for Warren, yes, they were still a cover band, but Warren, imho,is on a whole different level as a singer(certainly not trying to copy Jerry) & as a guitar player--way more versatile & melodic to these ears than copy cat Jerry who captures the "feel" of Jerry, but not the musicianship or range. To each his own

You haters can just stuff a sock in it. You just don't get it, which is too bad. Furthur is a great band and they are very enjoyable and and they just plain rock! They rock as hard as ABB, just in a different way. PERIOD.
Also, there are plenty of jam band fans to go around. On the night of those Beacon ABB shows, there probably won't be one empty seat. It will be sold out, almost guaranteed. I mean really. Its the ABB at the Beacon. Its not even an issue to me. Its like apples and oranges. Or should i say peaches and roses? Anything more than that is a Whipping Post thread.

For me its all about perspective and being grateful to get anything like what we are getting right now. I am so grateful that I am getting to see ABB and members of the Grateful Dead live. There will come a day when its just going to be history. And people years from now will look back and say, those people who got to see Gregg Allman live with the ABB and Furthur with Bobby and Phil, don't know how lucky they were.
I am just truly grateful to have seen what I have in my lifetime. Its just unbelievable. I have seen incredible shows with none other than Gregg Allman and ABB, Warren HAynes, Derek Trucks, The Grateful Dead, The Dead, Phil and Friends, Ratdog and now Furthur. People years from now are only going to be able to wonder what it was like to be at one of theses shows. Im teliing you right now its been freaking unreal! Almost too good to be true.
All that being said, I am going to the Beacon and Times Square! God willing........

hating? whos hating? i love Furthur, the only one hating is Bill Kruetzman, did you read his comments? hey i like my dead just like you but they cant BRING IT like the ABB BRINGS IT. Derek trucks and Warren Haynes are superior guitarists to bobby and DSO jerry. im going to Radio city no doubt, but thats AFTER the beacon shows

You can jabber all you want about the "h" word and every other thing that comes to mind but do not forget about the economic backdrop in front of which these shows are being presented.

Simple as this, (i) see/hear band-A once for $170 or (ii) see band-B three times for $180, alot of people that might choose the ABB 9 of 10 times all other things being equal will choose band-B three times for the money.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Shut out on the presale in the Fox. Got in at noon, landed three rear orch tix, tossed them back. Then went into some 15 min netherworld for the order screen to let me back in due to volume.

May head to the post office to go the old school route.
