If anyone's been watching That Metal Show this season, they've had the TMS Top 5 on every show, and the first one was live albums. What are some others 5 favorite live albums? Here's 5 that I like:

THE ALLMANS - AT FILLMORE EAST
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - At Montreux 1982 & 1985
The Who - Live At Leeds
B.B. King - Live At The Regal

I also have to salute this live album: THE BEATLES LIVE AT THE STAR CLUB IN HAMBURG, GERMANY 1962. (Lingasong Records, 1977). It was recorded in December 1962 by Adrian Barber, the man who eventually recorded the first album for the Allman Brothers Band (1969). There was never a live album I was more obsessed with than this one!

When I was a kid back in the early 80s one of my biggest obsessions was to get a hold of this album!! For years I heard about its poor sound quality reputation. However it was the only live Beatles album at the time that documented their pre-fame years.

My first taste of the record was a semi-legitimate cut-up cassette release called "The Beatles Early Years" (vols 1 & 2) released on Phoenix records (1981). Also its cousin "The Rare Beatles." I remember playing those tapes over and over and over again. At the time I was struck at how many songs I never heard of such as "Hippy Hippy Shake" "Sweet Little Sixteen" "Lend Me Your Comb" "Reminiscing" "Red Sails In The Sunset" "Shiela" etc. Eventually I got a copy of the original Lingasong release, although the USA version contained a few different songs than its European counterpart.

Eventually in the late 2000s the entire Star Club tapes were released as a bootleg, and I even put it up as a vine.
