I would have planned on this if the ABB weren't in Boston for 3 nights! I would so love to be there for this!

Bought my ticket for Sunday night's show online last night.....I am absolutely amazed that there are still tickets available for this show, considering that the Lincoln isn't all that big a place.

I'm a little surprised as I was under the impression that Jimmy was going to be part of the Lenny White Group Sunday which I thought was going to be McLaughlin's backing band....too much to hope for, I guess....wishful thinking. Still looking forward to what should be an exceptional show. Here's hoping Abstract Logix, McLaughlin's and Jimmy's label, who's sponsoring both shows, will tape it for a DVD/CD release.

I saw one of the best guitarists (2, actually) there about a month and a half ago - relative unknown Johnny Hiland opened for Michael Landau, and Johnny, who is from Nashville and legally blind, put on one of the most jaw-dropping displays of fretmanship I have ever seen or heard. Although he is primarily an electric country picker, he played every style, including an incredible blues number. His technical proficiency was astonishing. I'm not a player, so I may not be qualified to give my opinion, but he even impressed Landau, who some guitar players refer to as the "God of Tone." He called Johnny's playing "awesome." Landau seemed like a sincere guy who is prone to understatement, so that was quite a lofty compliment indeed.

When Landau came out to set up after Hiland's set, a familiar face also came out to set up his bass rig - Andy Hess. I made eye contact with him and tried to say "Hey, Andy!", but he was too focused on getting ready. I know he has recorded with John Scofield so obviously he is well-thought of amongst jazz/fusion circles. Good to see him getting work.

Looking forward to seeing old road dog buddy Tunney (ABB Pittsburgh '05, for Bobofest - what a privilege it was to get to meet Bob O' Brien before his much too-premature passing) and also Betty (skybyrd) who was my guardian angel last year when the dTb played at the Carolina Theater last year right around this time and I didn't have a ticket.....guess who hooked me up with a 2nd row center seat? Thanks, Betty....BTW, I'll have a present for you that'll be appropriate, I think.

Sorry for the length of my (boring) post - haven't been here at all for a long time due to personal issues and please do not send me any PMs as they won't be answered. Nothing personal but after getting many harrassing messages from someone who I had considered to be a friend, I just don't go there anymore.

Good to see ya'll again.

McLaughlin's Band is fantastic also. Gary Husband on keys/2nd drummer is a gas , seen him with Holdsworth and
with Mike Stern and others on both keys and drums.

John said he specifically wants to play with Jimmy. so it will happen.

It may happen but it may not. When I asked Jimmy about it Sat night for their double bill in Boston Tue he had said as humble as can be that he hoped John didn't invite him up to play. Something about John's way of playing compared to Jimmy had left him shall we say a tad uneasy! I was like you have got to be kidding me!?!! He did not sit in on Tue at HOB but Gary Husband sat in with Jimmy for the Jeff Beck tune Sophie!

there is a big jam scheduled after John McLaughlin's Set.

so I would bet a dollar to a donut that it happens.

(with inflation that saying loses it's meaning. )

I am thinking Jimmy would regret it if he turned the invite down.

Anyway, have fun everyone, wish I was there with you.

Wish you would be there too, JW. I greatly respect your taste in music and your knowledge of the guitar and its disciples....

And thanks again for sending me those copies of Jimmy's Charlotte shows at the Visulite last year.

I remember our conversation but am blanking on the "Mecca" part.....but knowing both of us I'm sure it has something to do with Pawley's Island/Murrell's Inlet/Litchfield.....wish I could get down there and visit, Dan. One of my favorite places in the world, as you know.

I'll give you a call soon. We need to catch up, Bro. It's been too long.

There's an interview with Souvik Dutta, the founder of Abstract Logix on the Jambands website. He states that 'Both the nights are being filmed for DVD for a 2011 release.' He also seems to indicate that the final jam will include all musicians. The complete interview can be read here:

Only 2 more days! It's getting real hard to keep my mind on work.

Huh! Didn't see that. Very cool...

BTW, Tunney, I was thinking about hitting the Remedy Diner before the show....real cool place about 3 blocks away right up Blount street on the NW corner of Hargrett....check it out and see what you think:

I had a killer club sandwich there right before the Hiland/Landau show.

Rich sounds good, I'll give you a call Saturday. Raleigh Christsmas parade is Saturday and they usually linger around, so parking might be tough around or before start of show. Just a heads up.

Dan, drunk you may have been, but ignorant? Not in a million years, my friend.

Expect a call in the near future.
