Why do we need to keep changing the clocks? Arizona gets along just fine not doing it, a lot of other countries don't do it, why do we have to do it? I don't like the light waking me up in the morning and it being dark by 5:30 in the afternoon. Just leave those clocks alone, let us sleep in darkness and drive off into the sunset.

The reason is to not have children standing at bus stops in the darkness on winter mornings.

It is a safety issue.

give them a sporting chance for goodness sakes.

It was also for productivity. Personally for me, it's about a rogue clock I've got. It's supposed to set the time automatically but it's totally confused about the change in when DST starts and ends. My clock set itself back a week ago!

Sounds like you need to employ the system my mother-in-law uses. She has two clocks in every room, one set to "fast time" and one set to "slow time". She never has to reset a clock, when the time changes she just looks at the other clock.

You can't argue with that plan.

I thought it had something to do with farming, but I really don't know.

Any I-phone users out there...if you have a weekday alarm, it will sound an hour late on Monday if you don't delete and reset it before then. Some kind of glitch in the OS that apparently only affects these alarms.

I don't do that, but I am one of those morons who sets his alarm ten minutes fast. I know its ten f'ing minutes fast, so i have no idea why I do it. I also don't hit snooze, so I think I am just a weird person...then again, you all knew that from my posts.

I do that too. I don't think we are alone. How about the people who set the alarm an hour before they have to get up then hit snooze 6 consecutive times. Why not just get up when you are supposed to?

Bob, my grandmother had a similar thing going on. She would keep two clocks, one for "God's" time and one for "government" time.

Your clock must have been manufactured prior to 2007 when US Daylight Savings Time changed, Ann. Is now 2nd Sunday March/1st Sunday November. Was previously !st Sunday April/last Sunday October.

Well since school is supposed to prepare them for the work world, start school later, 9-3 with an hour for lunch!

"The nominal explanations for the time change are that it saves energy - the later it gets dark the less electricity we use. The second "official" reason according to the Secretary of Energy (a man named Bodman, who apparently doesn't have a first name and may not, in fact, be a real person but a life size Muppet) is the later it gets dark the less likely octogenarian drivers are to run over small children."

Well the "later it gets dark", turning the clocks back in the fall it gets dark between 5-5:30 pm, if they left the clocks alone, it would not get dark till 6-6:30 pm. In the spring how is it even an issue because it keeps staying lighter longer so that in summer time it doesn't get dark till between 8:30-9 pm here in NY. So I don't think they know what they are talking about.

Some people cannot get up at the time they have to get up. It is not necessarily laziness on the part of the person. Our bodies have their own clock and mine will never want to get up between 7 am - 11 am. If I am up at 6 or 6:30 I can be up, but once 7 am comes, my body wants to get a block of good sleep. It does not matter when I go to bed. My body also wants to rest between 3-7 pm but that is not usually possible, so off I go, sleep denied, sleep deprived, like the zombies in Night of the Living Dead to comply with the world's time clock, traffic. If I don't get up when the clock goes off, I am not getting up so I have a lot of sympathy for those who hit their snooze button, they are just trying a kinder, gentler way to wake up. If it's really bad I have to take out the Big Ben with those bells, but usually a regular annoyance clock will do it.

I used to set my watch to subway time, so I knew how much time I had with the trains being late to catch the subway.
