Happy Halloween everyone , Here's my top 3 in no paticular order,

Its Alive - Sneaked into a movie theatre to see this terrible movie when I was 11. Took me about a month before I would enter my folks basement. That movie f-ed me up.

The Omen - The crows ripping the womens eye's out, the background music, very scary

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - Saw this at a theatre as well, hid behind chairs, etc. Freaky movie.

Exorcist(don't think any movie will ever scare me more)
Carrie
Night Of The Living Dead(original)

After further thought I had to edit out A Nightmare On Elm Street(1st one) and Friday The 13th(1st one) and add the other two.

The Shining ( Especially the "bear suit" scene . )

Close Encounters of the Third Kind ( I couldn't look up at the night sky for weeks . )

Alien ( Someone bought me a 12" tall action figure of that damned thing for Christmas
one year , protruding jaws and all . )

Big monsters (Godzilla, Gorgo, etc) never scared me because I figured you could see them coming miles away and get away.

Vampires, werewolves, they scared the beejezus out of me. They were human size and you couldn't tell they were evil until it was too late.

The original "When a Stranger Calls"
The Wizard of Oz---those flying monkeys scared the sh*t out of me when I was a young'un

I wasn't young (actually I was 42), but The Ring was pretty intense.

Nothing has ever scared me like The Exorcist.

But as a young kid the Wicked Witch in the Wizard Of Oz scared the heck out of me.

That was a scary movie. But I wasn't a kid when I saw it. I was probably 21.

The Creature From The Black Lagoon was really scary too. Then The Blob!

Thinking back, that was a TV movie. Pretty lurid. Gotta love the 70's.

The scene in "Jaws" where the head pops out scared the **** out of me. My Grandfather took a bunch of us to see it, I was 10 or 11. He also took us to see "The Deep" Didn't like the movie but by that time I could appreciate Jacqueline Bisset's wet t-shirt scene.

Night of the Living Dead
The Exorcist
Can't remember the title of the third one - all I know is that the scene where the garden hose tries to wrap around the guy's feet scared me when I was around eight. I think it was a TV movie.

"Big monsters (Godzilla, Gorgo, etc) never scared me because I figured you could see them coming miles away and get away.".

Although this makes lot's of sense but when i first saw the 1933 (and still the best) King Kong movie when i was a young kid i still checked under the bed for the next few nights.

When i grew up and was between 13 and 18 i devoured horror movies. It was in the middle of that European (mostly Italian) wave of gore movies with zombies and cannibals.
Although lots of gore they were less scary because they often lacked suspense and a sensible plot. The most scary part was trying to get into the movie theatre in the first place (being underaged). That were my "Grindhouse" days. I still have something with
zombie movies.

Back to the movies. I guess some of the usual suspects like the first Omen and The Excorcist. And indeed that underwater scene with the head popping out of the shipwreck from Jaws scared the crap out of me.

There was also a French movie on TV about a haunted house which kept me on the edge of my seat. It was pre Amityville Horror and Poltergeist. Can't recall the name but spooky as hell (well, back then at least).
