Just wondering . . . if the ABB isn't your favorite, who is? I know we've got a lot of diverse interests on this board. I found it really cool when I noticed there are a lot of metal fans on here. Something I could never get myself to really enjoy, but I thought it was cool that the likes are so diverse

The Band, everything EC-related, 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z and OutKast all hold special places in my musical heart. And I LOVE a lot of other artists, but the ABB just hits me like nothing else.

Hehehe...reminds me of the time a reporter asked the son of Todd Jones (then a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers) if his dad was his favorite baseball player. His response, "Are you kidding? He's not even in my top 10."

As far as the ABB goes, over the past 40 years there have been brief periods of time when other groups held my fancy, but overall there's no question that the ABB has been my all time favorite.

i'm not trying to be funny although i do own more ABB cd's than most other bands i like and i own every betts solo album. i'd say my top 10 are:

1 rolling stones
2 megadeth
3 twisted sister
4 queensryche
5 the grateful dead
6 the doors
7 cream
8 buffalo springfield
9 crosby, stills, nash (and young) and the various solo stuff
10 pantera

its tough though as only the top 3 stay the same and after that other bands come and go depending on my mood. the stooges, soundgarden, U2, the ABB, van halen, ac/dc, aerosmith and many others have been in my top 10 before and may be again.

I don't think I rate bands.

But they're one of the very first bands I heard and that's what matters to me.

The others that were heard in my house when I was the young'un and the BBSes (see my introductory post, next page or so, to learn what that means) ran the show:

Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Steve Winwood
Led Zeppelin
Blind Faith
Traffic
Cream
Derek and the Dominos
Bob Dylan
Blue Oyster Cult
Santana
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
Jethro Tull
some Grateful Dead
the Byrds
Frank Zappa
Others I am sure I left out, but that's a sampling

No one listened to the Rolling Stones in my house (weird, huh?) (big bad confession, I don't actually like them too much)
No one listened to the Doors (husband hates them because of no bass)
No one listened to Pink Floyd

I made fun of the BBSes for listening to the Beatles. Then I loved the Beatles.

I got made fun of for loving David Bowie (to this day, I say "cram it" if you can't appreciate D.B.)

Then I loved Beck (not Jeff) and the BBSes and I don't even really speak to each other anymore. (I take that back, I've gotten them to appreciate Beck to some extent - y'all should too, if you don't - start with my sig. song if you need guidance)

I tend to like me a lot of George Thorogood and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Stray Cats (better not laugh at that one). We're not going to talk about the Cure, the Smiths, and similar - I'd better stop before I get my ass kicked.

I do have a favorite - Pink Floyd.

Second is probably a tie between Yes and the ABB.

After these three, the rest is all fluid . . . except maybe Zappa. He's another constant.

The ABB have been my favorite over the last 18 years or so but at this point in time Gov't Mule have probably surpassed them slightly as my favorite. We are splitting hairs here though it is so close.

Past favorite bands at different points of my life would be.

Yes
Rush
Beatles
Ozzy
Judas Priest
Van Halen
Led Zeppelin
Guns N Roses
Pearl Jam

ABB is right up there with the Dead... the Brothers have helped me through some tough times and I never get tired of hearing their music. The early stuff with Duane just transports you and the new stuff with Derek and Warren is fresh and full of thunder.

For all the tumult this band has been through over 40 years, and all the 'personnel changes,' they still flat out produce stellar music that never fails to put a smile on my face.

The music seems timeless to me.

I also listen to alot of blues, roots country and jazz -- all of which are elements in ABB's sound.

Can't wait 'til the Boston shows!

Rob

ABB will always be the band that broke the doors down for me... but today i have to say Mule is king to me.

ABB got too much into a comfort zone for the past 8 or so years and Mule just keeps pushing themselves year after year.

Well said and I agree Hugh.

I would further add that my all time favorite band changes on a regular basis , but the ABB and the Mule are always somewhere in my top ten....

I would also have to add that Black Sabbath will always have a permanent place in my heart as they were the very first band I ever got into.

The same w/ Rory Gallagher, not only for his music, but also for introducing me to the true blues masters and for making flannel shirts cool...

I would say that the ABB and spin off's like Mule and DTB are what I listen to the most.So you would have to say that they are up there the way I feel fortunate is that though ABB have been in my collection since the 1970's its only in the last couple of years that I have started exploring them more so in some ways they are quite new to me which is very exciting as I feel I am still on a voyage of discovery.
As for my fav of all time I would have to go with BeBop Deluxe, they come from near where I live and Axe Victim in the mid 1970's was the first LP I bought.Though they split in 78 Their main man Bill Nelson has released over 60 CD's.

When I discovered the ABB it made me realize that 99% of rock bands play songs. The ABB played music...Most Rock bands use music to play songs. The brother used songs to play music. Like Skydogponyboy said...Theres the ABB then there's everyone else
