Chuck - Provided you are comfortable with the typical box set tracklisting (lots of familiar material, interspersed with the odd rarity and a sprinkling of unreleased tracks), it comes well-recommended.

Some of the previously-unreleased material has now escaped elsewhere (Outskirts of Town on Ludlow, Drunken Hearted Boy on Fillmore Concerts/AFE "Deluxe" Edition), but there's still plenty on there that makes it worthwhile - the Hourglass/31st Feb material, YDLM>S.Serenade>YDLM from 8/26/71, various live cuts from '73 & '79 etc.

Of course, you do realise now that you will be roundly condemned by all for not already owning it!!!

Most of the tracks from discs 2 and 3 can be found other places anymore, as Paul said. But there's some great stuff on 1 and 4 that would make it worth while....Nancy by Dickey Betts is very cool on disc 4....plus, there's great early stuff on disc 1....all in all, I'd wait for Santa to bring it to you....but you should definitely have it

What's the story on the 4:55 version of Dreams on disc 1?

I don't have this either, though I might have to get it.

It's just an alternate studio take....it's cool because it's different, but that song needs to be loooong

Right!

I guess if you really want to get technical, you should be able to find all of the live stuff too...there's only 11 songs that you can't get legally....still worth it though....

If you don't have alot of the material, it is a must have.....If the box is not too expensive, it is worth picking up. The book is really nice. See if you can find a copy of the older style packaging which was the size of an album cover. Booklet is outstanding in the larger configuration.

Yea, you should have it! I've got it twice! When I managed a record store I told the Polygram rep that I sure would like it!. She brought it to me and apologized for only having the LP. I later bought the CD's. I consider myself lucky now that's what she gave me!

I would think these are the only songs you couldn't get anywhere else on cd. Again, I could be wrong:

Shapes of Things / Allman Joys
Spoonful / Allman Joys
Crossroads / Allman Joys
Morning Dew / The 31st Of February
God Rest His Soul / The 31st Of February
I Feel Free / Second Coming
She Has Funny Cars / Second Coming
Dreams (4:55 version)
Can You Fool / Allman and Woman
Nancy / Dickey Betts
Rain / Gregg Allman

Incidentally the 4:55 "Dreams" is from a 4 song ABB demo recorded April of 1969, before the first album. I think it's pretty cool actually...

Rain by Gregg Allman is also available on ONE MORE TRY - AN ANTHOLOGY...

Hello. The other three songs were "Trouble No More", "Don't Want You No More" & "It's Not My Cross to Bear". Interestingly enough, "Don't Want You No More" & "It's Not My Cross to Bear" were not segued together at that point. The only time I know of the actual band doing them separately. They are the same arrangements otherwise. All four songs are really cool.

The box set is pretty cool...a bit pricey for cuts you probably don't have though. Check out a good "used record store" and you can probably get a really good deal on it. There are alot of used copies out there in circulation right now. But, be sure it has the book that goes along with it!!! It's a pretty good read.

greetings n salutations:

Check this out... I found this box set in an old pick up at a buddies tow lot. He said I could have it since the truck had cleared lien and that it was "just an old dinosaur hippy band", I replied "whatever dude" and waked away with it. All four discs were in it and were in great condition. It don't stop there folks... It didn't have a book but I had another friend who had found a booklet from the boxset someplace and turned it on to me. Is this "Kick Down" heaven or what ?

Be blessed
Laters on

I think its time for another ABB Box Set to be released.

Maybe it could be called..."Still Dreaming" .

Seriously...we do need another one.
