No one should do this song except for Van Morrison.

Short memory Bob. During the UPT run ( I believe the first set of the show that ended with the Psychedelic Mountain Jam /sandwich encore Whipping Post) I said that the ABB version of this made me feel like I was at my prom and you said you kind of liked it)

I can always wait long enough to be proven right

I don't remember saying it, but I believe you. Still, why mess with perfection?

I agree. I have refused to see Van live due to his history of nastiness to the audience, and the realization after watching the You Tubes that even Van shouldn't be singing these songs since he can't match his own perfection.

My wife had a great time getting drunk on a flight to SF last March with his backup band

Warren Haynes and Dave Schools acoustic "And it stoned me" from the parking lot at Red Rocks in 2004.

I haven't heard that show but let me chime in in agreement on loving the ABB version. WH's vocals really soar on this song.

Have you ever heard Tommy Talton do this tune? Tommy has a Van-like quality to his voice and he can hit those notes! He does a fine job on this song! I'll send you a video of his show in Macon last year if you don't believe me!

The ABB version from 8/10/03 is a personal favorite of mine. I love the tempo, the whole feel, Warren's singing and the way Derek handles the horn parts on slide...

I do love Van's original of course... but I do feel that 8/10/03 does justify a cover.

I love the original and get shivers when I hear any one play the song. The Brothers do a nice job and Warren really shines when he does it with the Brothers or Mule .
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit do a nice job, too. I have a great recording from a record shop promo they did. If I can find it tomorrow, I'll post it. Getting a little late for me. Zzzzzz.......

I forgot all about Tommy doing it, he did do a great job on it. Would enjoy seeing a clip of that.

It is just a great song.

Zac Brown Band does a good version of it and now I love the way he sandwiches it into "Free".

I would love to hear Tommy's version.
