Every morning I come across these huge flocks of bicyclists taking up entire lanes on State Road 84. The more people in the flock, the wider they spread out. Instead of going single file, they drive 5 and 6 wide, taking up traffic lanes. Cars and trucks must move over to avoid running them over. Are these people out of their minds? The speed limit is 55 on this road. Here is a picture I took of a small flock with my Blackberry this morning:

I see this sometimes by me too. Its a tad annoying. I remember riding my bike as a child with my parents and anytime a car would come they would yell at us, "single file!"..and we would fall in line. A little courtesy would goes a long way.

I also recommend carrying sun tan lotion with you and spraying it at rude cyclists.

Other than riding non-single file, these cyclists are doing nothing wrong. Bicycles have the same rights to the road as any other vehicle (except interstates). W/ a 55 mph speed limit and a flat straight road like this, it should be easy to pass them.

These people are demented. There are trucks going 70 MPH right next to them. Also, they are less than a mile from a regional park. Riding around the park isn't good enough for them. They have to form big gangs with 50 bikes riding 6 wide.

Yes, well, some cyclists don't ride in a single file and make you go too far to the left to pass them, putting you in the lane of oncoming traffic.

I know they have as much of a right to the road as cars. However, a bicycle going 5 mph should not be allowed to impede a car going 30, yet, they do it all the time.

I blame Lance Armstrong, micelf.

I may not be the safest driver on the road, but I always give bikes a wide berth because I have been where they are. I had people holler, throw things and whiz by w/in inches of me (as if the universe will collapse if they have to go into the other lane for the split-second it takes to pass).

There is little motorist empathy out there generally, be it some cellphone chatter that misses that the light has changed and causes those behind to miss it, or some other driver who does not pull up at an intersection so others can reach the turn lane, etc.

I think taking pictures whilst driving is probably rather unsafe as well...

Just sayin'.

As youths, my buds and I found that bikes and joggers were always easy to hit with an egg. Usually really pissed them off, too.
