Plans have fallen through again. I am strongly considering driving a couple of hours to Columbus Ohio to see the Mule again. Have any of you ever done this? I know from experience that it can be a bad experience dragging someone with you who is not into the band. Any thoughts ?

My wife likes the same music and we go everywhere together but many people fly solo. People from the site often meet up at these shows. Start a thread...

I do it all the time. Usually end up running into people I've met before or making new friends. It's a better way to go than being within someone who doesn't really want to be there.

I do it often. I usually end up running into people I know anyway.

It's better go and meet like minded people than to be there with someone that that turns what could have been good night into a bad one.

Once, I was at a Convention and Dickey was playing at a club in Baltimore. I couldn't get any of my friends to go. So off I went and had a great time.

A few times, but I prefer not to. However, in '07, my friend had something come up and could not go to the Outlaws/DB&GS. It was close to home, so I went solo and had a good time w/ the people at my table. This was the last time GS played Atlanta, and Hughie would soon be gone. So now I'm very glad I did it.

I prefer to go alone especially ABB shows. I usually meet up w/ some folks from here so a good time is had by all.

Most of the time I go alone. But it sure is fun when you go with someone who is into the music. Or who "gets" it as it goes along.

Many times. And a lot of times even prefer it so I can focus on the music instead of someone not enjoying the show.

I went Sunday night by myself to see Jackson Browne touring w/David Lindley. Glad a I did! I lucked into a great single seat at the Box office right at show time. Parts of the show were off the charts good.

Easy in / easy out when you are by yourself....and cheaper.

I do it probably 1 out of every 3 shows I go to. When I do it for an ABB family show, I don't really consider it going by myself since I'll be meeting up w/so many familiar faces.

I used to go to shows by myself.

my advice, close the curtain, don't sit down, and have plenty of quarters.

All the time. My friends don't understand my musical taste, and the few who do can't always afford to go with me.

I've made plenty of friends at shows when I'm by myself. Not to mention the fact that when I go to a show, I'm there to enjoy the music, not to socialize with a friend.

Only once, Dickey opened for the Doobies.

Plan on hitting the 3rd Boston show solo if I can get a ticket day of show. My buddy who's going with me Thur & Fri informed me that his wife will kill him if he goes Sat.

I went to my very first Mule show all by my lonesome.

Can't remember the name of the venue but it was in Louisville, KY and I had a front row seat to the right of stage. Met a few really cool people down front at that show and ended up not being lonely at all

I have only gone to one show by myself but it was a very enjoyable experience. It was kind of an adventure -- I realized I could make the show late, left straight from work and drove the 4 hours or whatever to get there, showed up a tiny bit late so no socializing, got my ticket, got straight in, watched my favorite band, and drove home happy. Wife thought it was odd, but that's a small price to pay.

Funny this thread comes up now. My son is my concert partner and he is leaving for college in 2 weeks. When I saw the Boston show's going on sale I was full bummed out. After a while I decided what the heck, best move on and learn to fly solo. So when tixs go on sale I fight the old habit and select 1 seat- best available. Low and behold the benny of flying solo is I got the odd seat left in the center of the 5th row for Saturday, triple word score, YES! Instant karma?

You can often get a very good seat if you are a buying a single seat.

At larger shows, you can also move up to empty seats more easily if you are solo than when you are with other people.

So yes, I have gone to shows solo, and it is just fine! I would prefer to focus on the show rahter than talk about it while it happens.
