Curious as to what people think is the best recording of this song. Which has Gregg's best vocals, best guitar playing, overall band performance, etc...

"First Set" version is my personal favorite. I was at the show, sober except for a couple of pre-show beverages, standing on a chair in the last row. Tore my head off.

I never understood the venom toward the Molly Hatchet version from some here. I'm glad they added some originality to the cover. Some excellent guitar work on theirs too.

I love the Duane versions, but Derek on this one is something to behold. The Beacon DVD version from 2003 is right up there:

Wasn't recorded but seeing Duane Allman playing "Dreams" in Fayetteville, NC is without a doubt my favorite version. Ahh, the power of memories.

Yep, Jack owns that song.

The Instant Live from the Fox is a good one.

My favorite has to be the original release. Live ? It has to be with Jack Pearson from Harrisonburg, Va. Sept. of '93. That disc has been in my Car CD player for 8 months now. I'm just getting the little nuances of Jacks soloing! Cover version ? Don't count out Buddy Miles folks.

Love 'em all ,especially those with Jack Pearson ,but the GA Tour version sticks in my head.Love the strings and Tommy Talton's slide fits so well to the sound Gregg was going for at the time.

X2, one of Tommy's great solos on there, dreamy sounding.

Also like the demo version from the boxset.

VERY cool I attended one of the two shows in Boston, was just the week before this I think

never heard a version I didn't like -- if I had to pick one it'd be the one you saw, from the GATour album

As great as Warren's slide was, Jack was even more amazing when he joined -- those ethereal slide notes he plays put this song at a serious Peak IMO

then of course all the 1969-71 versions -- again, not a bad one & FE remains my favorite -- 2/28 Brewer Fldse, a thing of beauty also

& on & on...
