Fox News host Greta Van Susteren is apologizing for "a doozy of a mistake" made on her show Monday when a picture of Shirley Sherrod was used to illustrate a segment on Rep. Maxine Waters, the Huffington Post reports.

Waters, a California Democrat, has been charged by the House with ethics violations, and Sherrod was fired from the USDA for incorrectly being cast as a racist. What the two visually have in common is that they're both black women.

Van Susteren took to her blog Monday to issue an extremely effusive apology, calling the incident on her "On the Record" program "a very bad mistake and a painful one for which we are very apologetic."

"We really don't know what to say and there is nothing that you can post to make us feel better (not that we deserve to feel better!) This mistake was bad, very bad and we are immensely sorry," Van Susteren wrote.

Though slip-ups are bound to happen on live television, this isn't the first time Fox has issued a public apology for mixing up black political figures. In 2007, a Fox host apologized after the network ran footage of Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan while discussing the ethics troubles of Democratic Rep. William Jefferson of Louisiana.

#1 news for the past 9years.
Maybe some of you should pay more attention and learn what is really going on.

Rupert Murdoch the chief architect of the dumbing down of America, and there you have it an example of his target audience.

Yeah, I always get a good chuckle out of these claims....I watch FOX news from time to time, it becomes "balanced"..when I change the station and get another networks point of view..

I think if you really want to be educated about what's really going on, one thing that is really important to learn, "don't watch the news to be well educated on politics... ANY network's.

Pretty classy apology from Van Susteren. She is one of the better personalities on Fox, though that is faint praise. Nancy Grace makes me want to go postal!

And Milli Vanilli sold millions of records..it didnt make them real singers though. FOX is pure propaganda and they have a very distinct record of disinformation and misinformation and feeding those lies to the gullible.

You don't really belive this, do you?

Yes, yes he does. And he wont even entertain the idea that they might have a great big long record of lying behind them. Ignorance is bliss and he is the happiest person on Earth.

The worst thing about Nancy Grace? She's from Macon, and Macon doesn't need the bad publicity.

At any given time day or night, if you surf by Fox there's about a 50/50 chance that a Liberal is on the screen sharing their views. Is that the propaganda you're talking about?

I often watch the Today show. It's no more fair and balanced a point of view than Fox. Matt Lauer and Ann Curry are about as paternalistic as any other hard core liberal. What really pisses me off is some white liberal New Yorker getting all high and mighty - thinking they have to save the rest of us from ourselves. OK, Ann is half asian, I know, you don't have to point that out.

I also frequently watch PBS and listen to NPR. It is a decidedly liberal POV. As the poster said earlier, if you aren't able to take information from all available sources and make logical decisions about what may just be .bull **** and what may be credible, then shame on you.

We are getting fed a lot of bullsh.t from all different directions, but I would ahve to say that this administration is far and away the worst I have seen in my lifetime with its propaganda machine.

The local NewsTalk replaced Neil Boortz with Beck. I had never listened to Beck before. As a fiscal conservative, all his ranting about God and God's will and the good v. evil dynamic, well, I turn the radio off if I can't find something else. He's the fringe, and libs shouldn't be too concerned with him. It's entertainment as is clearly stated in the intro, but I wish CBN would pick him up.

The Today Show doesn't portray itself as "News", and neither should Fox. The best source for unbiased news reporting is your local TV affiliate news team. They simply read the facts.

That's a good point, but at the same time, the magazine format does allow for some editorializing (is that a word?), and it is an extension of NBC news, and it is undeniably liberal.

OK, let's compare FOX to CNN and MSNBC. Do you honestly think they are "fair and balanced"?

Yes. A Fox News studio is a controlled environment, mediated by a right-wing host. Therefore, inviting a liberal to come on and "share his/her view", is nothing more than a ploy to further trash the left. It's easy to bully a liberal if he/she is surrounded by conservatives who direct the show. It's similar to a political cartoonist giving a politician goofy physical features to convey a message.

The six o' clock news with Chris Wallace doesn't "bully" liberals. In fact I don't think any show bullies liberals except possibly Hannity and nobody claims that particular show is fair and balanced.

No, Im talking about when they flat out lie to their viewers and the viewers are too stupid or gullible to realize it or even question it. If you want to discuss their dishonesty, Im ready when you are.

Getting just one point of view, as you have done, doesn't allow you to think. You just believe what they tell you.

And a network that has to tell you that they are fair and balanced probably isn't.

Bingo!

I would throw O'Riley in there as well as the complete nut job Glenn Beck. To me O'Riley is the worst of the three because he is a big phony. He claims to be an Independent, fair and balanced but never ever crosses from the right side of the aisle on any issue. At least with Hannity and Beck you know you are getting bleeding right wing fanatics and they aren't afraid to admit it.
