Sad news for sure.
Ben Keith was a major contributor on many of Neil Young's more "country" projects, Harvest, Harvest Moon, Comes A Time, etc, etc, and was in his recent touring band.
Also played on Patsy Cline's "I Fall To Pieces", and a big time country session player...
One of them guys in the background, that played on a lot of big, important pieces of music.
Thanks for the music, Ben, long may you run...

Farewell to Ben. I'm not a gigantic Neil Young fan, but the albums that Ben played on appeal the most to me. Sounds like he led a very productive musical life. An angel on earth.

Great pedal steel player. I've seen him with Neil Young many times. He will be missed.

Keith's sparse understated steel guitar on several of the songs on Harvest were brilliantly done.

Not many players really "get" the important truth that sometimes less is more

Keith did.

Couldn't agree more. He had a unique approach to his playing, unfortunately all too rare. What he played always served the song and the singer, rather than serving himself, and made the song infinitely better. I loved the way he played.

RIP Ben...beautiful player, never realized just how much his presence on so many great Neil Young albums meant to the overall sound-for example, Tonight's the Night.

The news of Ben's death saddens me greatly as a massive Neil Young fan his contribution to Neils legend was huge. The last time I saw Neil in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, I was in the front row and Ben stood proud beside Neil . I remember the good times

RIP BEN KEITH 1938-2010
