Allman Brothers Band co-founder Gregg Allman underwent liver transplant surgery on Wednesday (June 23), suspending the group's tour plans and forcing it to bow out of Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival on Saturday near Chicago.

Allmans guitarist Derek Trucks will fill in at Crossroads with his own band, joined by his wife Susan Tedeschi.

Due to Gregg's operation, the full Allman Brothers Band will not be performing at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival June 26 at Toyota Park in Chicago, BUT WARREN AND DEREK WILL appear at the Festival.

& unfortunately...

From ericclapton.com:

For those unable to attend, the official website, crossroadsguitarfestival.com, will have updates and photos throughout the day. The festival will not be broadcast live on radio, television, nor on the internet.

Most likely Derek and Susan's band

but then again, Warren could possibly guest with most of the artists on the itinerary

Derek's my most favorite player on the planet and I'll certainly enjoy this but I'm perplexed why the ABB set list couldn't be re-worked due to Gregg's absence.

I guess you just can't have an Allman Brothers show without Gregg.

With as many acts as they have on the bill, I'm surprised they replaced the ABB in an official slot anyhow. I think it again shows how much Eric likes & respects Derek to give the Derek/Susan Band a slot.

Hopefully, Warren will perform with Derek/Susan and later in the show with Clapton too.

Any idea why the surgery happened today with a scheduled gig coming up over the weekend?

One gets on a "wait list" for transplant surgery - when the needed organ becomes available, you get the call and you go ... right then.
It is not the sort of thing you can plan for. Gregg got the call.

He's been on the list for a new liver for awhile. When something like a donor liver becomes available you don't wait around, would be my guess ... too many people are on these transplant lists waiting for their miracle. Gregg is lucky that a suitable match was found.

I completely agree. Very excited to see the new DT/ST Band...but one of my favorite ABB shows was a few years ago at Wanee when Gregg couldnt make it. The core band was still there, and brought out a lot of special guests, and really shuffled the setlist. With all the talent at Crossroads..hard to belive they can't do that again. I wonder if Warren's schedule with Mule is prohibiting that from happening...if I remember right, they are in Europe right now. Probably makes more sense to have him guest with Trucks/Tedeschi band...instead of rush in to Chicago with little "practice time".

That's true. Warren & Mule doing 6 shows in Europe. Tomorrow (thursday) is their last gig. Guess on Saturday Warren will sit in with the "Jet Lag Band".

The Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band, along with Warren Haynes, will take the stage and invite special friends to join them.

This was what was planned with ABB, many different people coming on to play.

The streaming broadcast was canceled, details couldn't be worked out.

DVD will be release in Fall.

Couldn't it just be Gov't Mule w/ Derek, or even Warren, Derek, & Oteil w/ Matt Abts? I'm really, really getting sick of the being Tedeschi'd at every turn.

Like Tom Petty told Stevie Nicks when she wanted to join the Heartbreakers, and to paraphrase, "Yeah, but there ain't any chicks in the Heartbreakers".

Yoko wants to shine. Stop.

I could not disagree more,I think you will find that Derek's future will be in a band with Susan and I do think they make sweet music together.

Mule was never scheduled so that thought wouldn't really work.

I'll bet this Derek/Susan/Warren/Oteil thing will rock. I wonder if Jaimoe and Butch will be the drummers.
