This past weekend I took a trip from Charlotte, NC to Macon on my own ABB excursion. I ate at the H&H restaurant, took in the Georgia Hall of Fame, Rose Hill Cemetery, the accident sites and of course, The Big House Museum. Of course I had to listen to a chronological nonstop Allman Brother music collection as I drove, moving from tape one of Dreams through the early years with a live bootleg CD thrown in, through the solo albums and ending with 2nd Set---as I pulled back into my driveway. Man what a trip.

I am so very impressed with the Big House Museum. To say it is well done does not come close to doing the museum justice. It was outstanding. I could have stayed there all day! It is outstanding and it alone was worth the trip. Congratulations to all those involved with pulling it together. It is truly outstanding.

I really taken by two things during my trip. First I was surprised at the many other people I met who were basically doing the same thing I was---their own personal ABB trips. And what a true brotherhood it has proven to be for me. I spoke to several people on and on just like I had known them my whole life. The music of the Brothers touched them like it did me and I was blown away. Secondly I just couldn't get over how six young men from essentially nowhere created several forms of music at one time (Southern Rock Jamband and blues rock) and changed the course of American music forever. I know their music changed my life when I was just 16 (will soon be 48) and still does influence my own songwriting and Hammond organ playing....but man the effect they had on the world too.

I recommend such a trip for anyone who hasn't made such a trip. The only things that would have made it better was to go with another peach-head(s) (I went solo as my wife and children have no interest whatsover in music) and to have seen the Brothers perform while I was down there.....maybe some other time.

What a trip!

BD

And I can relate to the wife and kids who don't share the enthusiasm. But, they don't mind my obsession, so it's all good.

Welcome aboard, BD. We all understand exactly what you are talking about. Hope to meet you in Macon 8/14. There will be a number of folks wearing a necklace with a bronze, triangular shape on a black string. A gift from Big6Peachhead. Walk up to any and introduce yourself. You'll meet an instant friend.
