Take McDonald out of the lineup and add...???..almost anybody else, and I would be more likely to check out this show. Something about Mike McDonald that annoys the hell outta me. I gave him a fair shake when he opened for Steely Dan a couple of years ago and I just wasn't impressed.

^^^ I like McDonald's voice, haven't always liked his choice of songs^^^
The SF show is in Golden Gate Park, which means it's going to be a part of the Hardly Strickly Bluegrass Fest, in which case I'm there for sure!

September 18 is a Saturday!

Time for the Middle Earth folks to come to KC. Starlight is one of the best outdoor venues in the Midwest.

Plus, I'll cook for everyone.

I'll second that. I think I saw the same tour. Wasn't that the Sugartooth McDan tour, or something like that, in '06? Either way, McDonald was pretty lame in his warm-up set and when he came out for a number or two with the Dan.

I totally agree. To my biased ears, McDonald is a lot like Steve Perry in that he may have remarkable range, but something about his singing always bugged me. If they replaced him with Joe Cocker, I would joyfully attend.

Looks like Fagan brought the Steely Dan Orchestra with him all he is missing is Walter Becker. Should be good. McDonald played with the Dan back in the 70's.

Wow! Thanks for posting this. I'll put up with Michael McDonald for the other two. I just don't get him, and loved the Doobies until he came along. Definitely a talented guy, but not my cup of tea.
I did appreciate him as a backup singer when he was with Steely Dan... "Peg, it will come back to you"

Steely Dan was great in Chicago last Autumn. I might have to burn up some highway this September as well.

This interests me, but I can't help but think that they are being overly optomistic w/ this new combo. Verizon in Atlanta holds 12k. Will they approach being able to sell more than a third of it? The concert buz is not exactly thriving right now and the Dan has been visiting fairly often before now, so will many want to come out for an unknown entity? I'm going to wait for one of those last minute special deals.

From the Chicago Theatre website:

GRAMMY Award-winning singer-songwriters Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs are uniting this summer and fall to tour as "The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue," and will bring their unique show to The Chicago Theatre on Saturday, September 11. The three hit-making artists have assembled a stellar band for the occasion, and will bring the best of their mix of blue-eyed soul, rock, jazz and R&B to the stage in a series of collaborative concerts.

Donald Fagen explains the genesis of the tour, "Back in the early '90s, my wife (Libby Titus) was producing little shows in Manhattan restaurants featuring mostly friends - musicians, comedians and so on. This grew into "The New York Rock & Soul Revue" which toured nationally for two years and produced an album, Live at the Beacon Theatre. The 1993 show featured, among others, Mike McDonald, Boz Scaggs and myself. The shows were such a blast that we decided to tour together again this year as the mighty 'Dukes of September.' We'll be playing the kind of R&B tunes that made us want to be musicians way back when, as well as select numbers from our personal repertoires. We've enlisted a swell group of players and singers - in fact, I'm so excited that I just can't hide it. Be there or be square, chillin'."

With this year's "The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue," Fagen, McDonald and Scaggs are giving fans an unprecedented opportunity to hear them delve deep into their individual classic catalogs of music, along with selected hits and tributes to their influences accompanied by a crack group of top players including Jon Herington (guitar); Freddie Washington (bass); Michael White (drums); Michael Leonhart, Walt Weiskopf and Jay Collins (horns); Jim Beard (organ); plus background singers Carolyn Escoffery and Catherine Russel.

I'm getting my tickets tomorrow for the Richmond show ! The last time I saw Boz live was at the V.C.U. Gym in 72 0r 73 . McDonald is the weak link but Fagen and Boz are gonna be well worth the price of admission. In my HUMBLE opinion.
