I like Doyle. Great guitar player & not a bad singer either. I've seen him with clapton 3 times, once as an opening act & twice as a band member. I liked him in 2007 when they did all the dominoes songs.

Only saw him twice with Clapton and Derek.
Not a fan at all. I think his tone is crappy. As Vince said he is competent but so are most of the guitar players all over the world. Nothing special to my ears.
Also did not like his singing, playing and songwriting contributions on Already Free.

A pretty good songwriter too. I like a lot of his songs with Arc Angels, and I've always been surprised by the negative reaction on this borad to his tunes on Already Free. Musicmann was nice enough to illustrate that for me with his post

Our Love was my favorite song on that album bar none, just a beautiful tune. I guess some folks didn't want to hear anyone but Mike and Susan singing on that album, but I thought his contributions to that record were a big plus.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks.....

Liked him with Clapton. Loved what he did on Already Free; Our Love is a great song. I like his tone and his voice.

I thought he kicked the 3/19/10 United Palace show up a notch or three on Meet Me At The Bottom. Maybe you had to be there, but he was fabulous.

I think he's wonderful. His tone, vocals and songwriting are great. Arc Angels, Clapton, Already Free and Susan said they want to work more but Doyle is so busy. I'd love to see Doyle, Derek and Susan together in the future.

Barb, that Meet Me At The Bottom was fantastic! I pre ordered the show because of that tune! I was watching via Moogis and on opening notes jumped out of my chair dancin' to that groove and tone... fine stuff indeed!

I also think ''Our Love'' is the best song on Already Free. I think it might be Derek's best studio song. His playing on it is beautiful.

The Arc Angels debut is a classic of the 1990s decade for sure.

Doyle was good in the video I've seen of him in Roger Waters band and he was a big plus in Clapton's band including vocals on the D&D tunes. He definitely picked up some stuff from Derek when he took over the slide parts after DT left Clapton's band.

I wasn't as blown away with the Arc Angels at Wanee last year as I wanted to be, though. I wish they had stretched out a few songs (even by a couple minutes). They were on the big stage and would have been a better fit for the Mushroom Stage.

PatCrenshaw & I got to share a table and a 5-10 minute conversation with him at Smith's Olde Bar a few years back. He was there (along with Derek & Susan) to watch a Scrapomatic show. Super nice guy.

And his dad co-wrote Life By The Drop with SRV. Has to count for something. Plus Junior has a cool soul patch.

Doyle is one of my favorite guitarists. I've seen him a couple of times with the Arc Angels and a bunch of times with Eric Clapton

Angels fan here. If Clapton likes him enough to have him in his touring band, then that's good enough for me, too. Plus, he's pals with Derek.

I like Doyle - playing and vocals. Love the Arc Angels, enjoy the collaberative work he's done with Clapton, Derek, and others. And thought he was smashing with Roger Waters on the In The Flesh tour...

Loved his playing on the Clapton tour, both on the Crossroads DVD and the show I saw, and I like his contributions on Already Free. I have to say, though, that his two solo tunes on the Crossroads DVD make me cringe, I always fast forward through that. Not interested in the least in seeing him as a solo artist.

Competent.....REALLY?? Have you heard his stuff when he was touring with Roger Waters? Opinions are like **** s, I don't really like his voice all that much personally, but the man is leaps and bounds above competent on the guitar.

I agree JP. Anyone who considers Doyle to be merely "competent" isn't paying attention. His guitar work and vocals on Roger Waters In the Flesh DVD are outstanding.

Yep, agreed there too. Best love song ballad I've heard in 25 years. Powerful vocals. If anyone hasn't seen the Robert Johnson studio session DVD that Eric Clapton recorded a few years ago, you should check it out. Doyle is fantastic. There must be a reason why Roger Waters and Eric Clapton wanted this kid from Austin, Texas to tour with them. And that reason is that Doyle Bramhall II is very, very good at what he does.

I might be wrong but I don't think you get to play with Roger Waters and Eric Clapton if you are merely competent.

I loved the old Arc Angels stuff and enjoyed his contributions to Already Free. Saw the Arc Angels the day after Wanee last year and wasn't all that impressed. (Missed their set at Wamee!)

Jay and I say him in a trio setting in Greensboro, NC in 2007 and thought he was great!

There is also a very good DVD, "Live from The Great Wall of China" which really captures his abilities as a guitarist and singer.

Ohhh, I am not a Doyle fan at all, but I LOVE his "Outside Woman Blues" from the Crossroads show. Actually, it's my favorite version of that song.

Great songwriter and player.

Good enough for Clapton and Roger Waters to pick for their Bands.

Love the Arc Angels.
