My trip itinerary has changed and I'll be in Memphis for a few days including Sunday. Anyone know of a good flea market or two in the area? Also, are there any good book stores (independent/used booksellers)?

Dunno about flea markets (and given the weather the past few days, not sure how many vendors will be out anyway), but for book stores, my favorite is Davis-Kidd Booksellers, on Perkins Extended off of Poplar Ave (if you're coming from downtown, make a left on Perkins Ext, from out east, make a right). They don't sell used books, but it's my favorite place here in town.

If you're looking for used books, try Burke's:

It's not a flea market, but if you're a music fan, then go to Memphis Music on Beale Street. It has alot of blues albums, posters, DVDS, etc. & you gotta be sure & eat some BBQ in town!!

Memphis Music on Beale St. has the best selection of Blues cd's in Memphis. They also carry some great new vinyl

Blues City on Beale is my fav. place to eat.GREAT Ribs & Steaks.

Shangri-La Records on madison Ave. is ,IMO,the King of used record stores in Memphis.Unbelieveable selection. They also have new vinyl & CD's..inc. a wonderful selection of memphis music...here's their web-site :

Spin Street on the corner of Poplar & Highjland is also a "must stop" place...HUGE store w/both new & used vinyl,CD's,DVD's & collectibles...an incredible store..here's their web site :

used book store : There is one on Madison towards downtown...can't remember the name but,it is right beside Zinney's (Bar/Grill).there is also a used record store there...

Flea Mkt's :

There's a big one on Cleveland.open Fri-Sun ....here's their web-site :

Memphis Flea Mkt. ...this is HUGE..it's only once a month at the fair grounds. Here's their web-site:

http://www.memphisfleamarket.com/

if you go down Madison Ave to the above place i memtioned...don't forget to ck. out world famous Ardent Studios (Devon just cut his new LP there).Everyone who is anyone has recorded there....you will also pass by Minglewood Hall, the newest concert venue in town. Here's the web site for Minglewood Hall :

https://www.minglewoodhall.com/

One more thing....Not sure when you're going, but one of my fav. Guitarist's,Eric Gales, plays B.B.Kings club on Beale St. every Sunday night starting at 10 p.m....he not playing tonight because of the memphis In may/Beale St. Music Fest. ..but,he will be there next Sunday night (according to his post on my FB page). You gotta ck. him out !!!

Hope this Info helps....just hollar if I can help you out any more....

That's awesome. Shangri-La was on my list of record stores to find. I'll be adding Spin Street to that. I'm excited about Eric Gales. I'll be there next Sunday night so hopefully we'll catch him there. Thanks for all the info hughduty!

agreed...BBKAS mostly just an 'every day" house band...ok but,no big deal...both Hi-Tone & Newbys are excellent places....I live 40 min. from Memphis & am over there all the time...have played over there in bands (clubs & such)since the 70's...Memphis is my "stompin' Grounds"..
