I know we've all read these kinds of posts before but...

I used to really enjoy reading the posts and occasionally getting involved in discussions here, but lately it seems all anybody does is bitch at each other.

I pretty much avoid the whipping post, but even in the "anything goes" forum, any post about music results in someone jumping down someone else's throat because they don't agree. And unfortunately, it seems to me to be less and less because they don't agree about the music, but because they don't like certain members involved in the music.

I enjoy debates and believe that people should express their opinions, but its hard to say something positive without someone jumping at you...

I guess I always looked at the etiquite here the same as in real life. If someone is talking about something you don't quite agree with or don't care about, just move on.

But here if you say the version of "Mountain Jam" from Chicago in 2002 is the best version ever... someone comes along and says something like "Dude how can you like the ABB since 2001? You're stupid because they suck now that Dickey's gone".

BEFORE anyone jumps down my throat... it goes both ways. That was just my example. It could be just the opposite.

It seems that every thread I read ends up in people fighting like a court battle.

I just wanted to get this off my chest...

Sometimes you just have to look at what goes on here as an 'online sport.' Sometimes it gets out of control, but if you stick it out, usuall foul is called and the games go on.

Well I had a Jane Curtin/Dan Ackroyd photo to post with a comment but figured someone would just see it as me slamming on Ann.

No worries, you can't let it get to you. if it's really your honest opinion, what do have to feel bad about? Some here have extremely thin skin , especially when it concerns the above topic.

So, no...It's not you

Thanks Ann, BigV & PhotoRon!

I knew people would come back and make me feel better right away.

I don't really think that I'm letting stuff get to me as much as I'm just getting down about having to read a bunch of personal attacks while just trying to read some thoughtful discussions!

I'm assuming, of course, that it had something to do with an 'ignorant slut.'

I think it is healthy to say how you really feel about a subject, but i do think it is important to remember others may have a different view than you do. I know i am passionate about certain subjects and certain music ,but i also learn alot from others views as well and sometime i change my view due to what i see from others .. a heated debate sometimes is what is needed to get a point accross... but i still love everyone...

Mike & I have different views on a few subjects, but he's one of the folks here that I have yet to meet, and I look forward to that someday happening.

I have a hunch that we could tip a few brews and have a great old time.

All I will ad to this is I am frequently disappointed in other posters' behavior (not their opinions) here, but then, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I've had a few clunker posts in my posting history. I just wish it wouldn't become SO personal sometimes.

There were a bunch of us gathered in Macon this past weekend. On a couple of occasions, some folks who have locked horns on this site found themselves seated across a table from one another.

Trading barbs and mean-spirited inuendo is easy when you're doing it from behind a keyboard. It's easy to forget that we're real people sometimes. Put your "nemesis" across the table from you and this take on a new perspective.

It's okay - healthy, even to have disagreements with each other. But once you've met, you realize that we are first and foremost people. Citizens of the world ... residents of a town called Peachville (aka HTW).

Sorry! I still got the warm and fuzzies from the weekend!

The Whippin' Post is more political than Anything Goes, thus people are more passionate about their points of view, which is not an excuse for unruly behavior, just trying to make it a little more understandable because people have different personalities, and everyone will not get along with everyone else.
