Merlin,
I have heard a copy of the show that Jack and Reese did at 3rd & Lindsley a month or two back. I am desperately trying to get a copy or persuade Jack and Reese to make some tunes available for sharing. Jack has said that he hopes to have some files for downloading by the holidays. The copy I listened to is a board tape made by a friend of Reese. So while the mix could use a little work, the brilliance of the playing comes thru very clearly. ABB fans would recognize "I'm Not Cryin'" "Everyday" and "Hold What You Got" There are a couple of instrumentals; "Esperanza" and "Highpockets", that absolutely blew me away. I find it hard to catergorize what they're doing other than to say that it is bluesy, jazzy, gospelly, R&B flavored. I'll call it "M" fusion music. Just mix equal parts Macon, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals and stir slightly. Tastiest recipe I've heard in some time. There are also a couple of tunes on the tape where Jack gets out his old Silvertone for some of the greasiest slide playing I can ever remember.
Interesting that your post should show today, because I have taken the whole day off in order to go see Jack and Reese tonight at 3rd & Lindsley. I thought I might go on down to the club this afternoon, just so I'll get a good table for the show. Really, it is that good!
The only suggestion I can give to Jack and Reese fans is an e-mail campaign to Jack's website asking (or in my case-begging) him to release some of this stuff. Jack is a perfectionist, so he has told me tjat he doesn't think the tracks are good enough for public consumption and he worries that people would not understand that board mixes are not always album quality. I strongly disagree. SO, let's start an e-mail avalanche to: www.jackpearson .com.

Upton - thank you so much for your post. Man, I am literally frothin' at the mouth for some Jack!!! Jack & Reese together is bound to have some real creative FIRE bouncing off the walls. Smooth slide

I'm in NY with no way of heading to Nashville anytime soon. So I am just hoping and praying for a CD release, or for some audience tapes to pop up. I can't wait to hear this band. I'm sure it is something truly special!

Have a great time tonight

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back to this thread, but I'll try to give an update. I had a chance to talk to Jack at some length Friday night, and he readily confirms his (and Reese's) desire to tour this band. ASAP. They have some studio time coming up this week, and they plan to add to their catalogue of recorded tracks. They did record this show (in 3 different formats) and that helps explain an incredible 2 hour and 20 minute first set. It sounds cliche, but I swear it semmed like an hour, tops. Jack restated his desire to have some tunes available for sharing by Christmas. (Could I get a better present?[rhetorical question]) Jack has never sounded better than when he is immersed in his material. Let me make this bold statement: I live in Murfreesboro and have had the great pleasure to listen to Jack at my leisure. But, in the 20 plus years that I have been listening to him, I have never heard him play at this intensity. Bird calls, volume pulls, slide runs that go past the pickups, and then he pulls out that old Silvertone. I don't know if Robert Randolph can drive a truck, but if he can, he needs to come and get a load of this. Opryland closed their theme park some years ago, but Nashville has a new musically based thrill ride. I could go on with the plaudits, but it's just redundant. Take the time. make the journey. Or, if that is not an option, wear out the message board at Jack's website. Lastly, I would challenge others who have heard Jack and Reese to post to this thread and tell me if I'm right or wrong. Upton
