A while back in some thread (I forget which one now), you mentioned about hiking up to see some falls right after you moved to Alaska.

Do you have any pictures of that trip? I'd love to see them. Especially right after a big snow storm like that. Hiking up into the mountains would be something. What gear do you use? I travel every year to Colorado for mountain climbing, but never during the winter months. Would love to get started in that though...

It was Thunderbird Falls, about 20 minutes outside of Anchorage. I didn't use any gear, just brought some bear spray and a bottle of water. I've been going on daily hikes as I'm trying to lose some weight. But no, I don't have any pictures. I've been thinking about signing up for facebook because my friends from back home are asking for pics as well.

You sound like you may be a more serious hiker than me. Eventually, I plan on getting good enough at it that I can take overnight hikes out in the middle of nowhere, but I'm not there yet.

Yep, good old google.

Listen Lee, I'm in Anchorage on the west side of town in a neighborhood known as Turnagain. I'm staying with family on Carleton St. I shopped at Carr's today, got a McDouble from McDonald's (they cost $1.50 here unlike the lower 48 where they cost a buck). In fact they don't even have a dollar menu here, it's more like a $1.50 menu. The sun rose at about five to six this morning, and it didn't get dark until about ten oclock last night. It snowed all day yesterday, although it didn't stick. Today I'm eating at the Moose's Tooth for lunch, then driving over an office on Fireweed to get a resume done because I can't find a job. It's about 30 degrees right now and there is frost on my car. Gas is running about $3.45 a gallon here in town now. I got my TAM certificate the other day from a sports bar called Eddie's on Old Seward that gives the courses several times a week. I applied for a job taking the census yesterday at the Calgary church on west 80th street.

Amazing how google told me all that, jerk.

Wasn't there just a huge snowstorm like the day before? Thought you might need some special gear to get up there. And I bet the bears are still hibernating....

I heard a rumor that if you make it that far there's a McDonald's that has a 75 cent menu!

I wouldn't say huge, but it took everyone by surprise. It's weird here, because parts of town have about eight inches of snow, and other parts of town have none at all. I don't know anything about bears, but I was worried I might encounter one. I know they avoid contact with humans, but the trails are lightly traveled this time of year so I thought it more likely I would encounter one. Truth is, I've never seen one in Alaska. The only time I've ever seen a bear was in the Yukon about 15 years ago. A big old brown just sort of lumbered across the street like he owned the place.

I've been saving for this move up here for years. I lived here for a year when I was eighteen, and I always regretted leaving. Family obligations kept me in Detroit since then. I haven't had a chance to enjoy myself though. I can't find a job or an apartment on the good side of time.

No, but they have moose jerky and salmon jerky in virtually every store you go to.

You'll just have to forgive me, but I find it curious that someone with no winter hiking experience could take a 7 mile hike into the mountains of Alaska in April, the day after a big snow fall, with nothing but a bottle of water and bear spray.

No snowshoes? No crampons? No ice axe? Nothing but a bottle of water and bear spray? Really?

No, but Billy Currington is. He scored a few hits in the last few years. Other than that I haven't been able to see any bands I know scheduled to come.

Isn't it only like 8:15 am local time now? You have a McDouble for breakfast?

OK lee, you have a huge post count and seem to be really popular on this forum. The last thing I need is you and presumably your buddies disbelieving me or following me around quizzing me. There are other message boards out there, I will make use of them from now on.

Yes, I'm one of Lee's buddies. But I'm calling pure BS here...you can't come on this site and flat out make stupid sh!t up and try to pass yourself off as someone else.

Until you can tell me how you made it up to those falls in the mountains, in April, with no gear, I'm not believing a word you say....

You know, a simple photo posted with you in it in front of the Moose's Tooth today could sure clear a lot of this up. You wouldn't even have to change your plans. They do have cameras in Alaska, right?

Hey Anna -

I'm unemployed. Do you have any connections to get me a job working on the Alaska Pipeline?

Perhaps in the defense industry, too. I bet "she" can see Russia from "her" house....
