...for going on a public forum and calling a band that was invited to play at your festival "ass holes" and saying "we will all begin a campaign to bury their sorry asses" and that "the black keys suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spread the word"????

Or did I miss the thread?

And don't try to sweep this under the rug by saying "Ahhh, that's just Butch" or something along those lines. That's was bush league.

I support Butch who put a lot into moogis over 2 guys who didn't even have the courtesy to talk to him.

Butch has a right to express the way he feels..............he always has. I support him and Moogis. I have never heard the Black Keys, and probably never will.

You're right and I agree with you that Butch, as does everyone, has a right to express an opinion. But there's also a big difference in taking the high road and resorting to crying like a spoiled brat when you don't get your way.

The Black Keys aren't really my cup of tea , so I didn't make it to their show . But what in the world happened ? This is the first I've heard about any of this .

I donít know what happened or where Butch said this, but I just watched a few tunes on youtube and he might be right about the sucking part. Which begs the question, why the hell did he invite them? Then again, perhaps he did not invite them. Not sure how that whole thing works anyway, does Butch have a say in booking the bands at the festival or is that some booking agent or promoter that does it?

He posted it on the Moogis forum in frustration. Poor form but I didn't see the need to move it to this site where he didn't post anything.

I caught about 2/3 of the Black Keys set and enjoyed it. I'd see them again. I bet some folks on this site would enjoy them too. Bring your ear plugs.

Being a good drummer who comes up with a great idea does not necessarily mean you'll have good public relations skills. Sometimes it seems he is trying to be bad at PR. Someone close to him should tell him.

The Allman Brothers Band does have a say in some of the "family" bands. Thereafter, it's up to the promoter to book the festival.

Who would want to talk to him anyway? If they didn't want to be on the broadcast it is their choice. I imagine they were not going to be paid by moogis.

And the Black Keys are a pretty good band. Better than a lot of the others playing there.

I thought it was pretty funny. It was obviously written in the heat of the moment and most likely sarcastically as well..... None the less, could have been held inside.

I also like the Black Keys.

Classless comment

if that is how he behaves - then that is quite disappointing

NO Pass. What is the expression - don't post comments that you would not want your mother to read online.

The fact that they pretty much blew him off at the last minute gives Butch the right to be pissed at them. I have no problem with him venting. The same way I vented and got blasted for it on the Moogis chat room when we were informed at the last minute that Derek and Susan's set wouldn't be streamed or recorded for the archives do to contractual reasons. I felt that they should have known that and announced it sooner as not to make people think their show would be archived. When people get pissed they vent, it is human nature. I don't give a cr@p about the Black Keys but I'm sure their fans were disappointed that they wouldn't allow their show to be streamed. Maybe his reaction was a bit much but I can understand it.

Whatever in regard to Butch. I find it interesting that we can all get on the soapbox and say how unprofessional it was for him to say anything at all on his forum about something he is passionate about. We all do, we sometimes regret it we sometimes don't. At the end of the day, I could care less about the Black Keys (didn't even realize they were on the bill to be honest). Moogis was fantastic and the only band that I really cared about at the end of the day was the Brothers. For 25 bucks a great deal and I will put up with a few rants by Butch in the heat of the moment.

Butch is always honest and tells it like it is. That is how he felt It is the Black Keys lost Butch was not going to make a penny more or a penny less.

"Butch gets a pass..." I don't get it...what should be done to him? Flogged? Burned at the stake?

As to the Black Keys, I got no use for a band without a bass player...

Steve Winwood toured without one when he opened for The Dead at Merriweather.
He played the bass parts on the Hammond bass pedals with his feet.

worked for me . His band was fantastic.

Excuse me, your bias is showing. He tried to talk to them before their set and they would not talk/listen, so I felt they are the ones who were rude.

While I am initially inclined to agree with the last part of your post, I remember one of the best bands of the 60's/70's was The Doors, and they had no bass player, either. So much for that train of thought....

Winwood was playing the bass parts on something. Manzarek played a Fender Keyboard Bass, plus they used various bass players in the studio. Hell, Lonnie Mack played bass on Roadhouse Blues.

Don't like the Black Keys. Two guys, silly garage rock riffs, guitar, drums, vocals. No bass, no dice.
