The ABB have been playing so awesome in 2010 with so much energy and passion having 2 of the greatest guitar players on the planet along with gregg looking and feeling the best he has in a long time and a supporting cast of oteil,Butch ,marc and jaimoe it is hard to imagine these guys not ever doing another studio album again,,they can still give any band out their a run for their $$$ I read where their was music left over from hittin the note along with Egypt and bag end they could bring out another album that could top hittin the note, somebody close to the band tell them it is not over.

I doesn't make sense for them to do a studio album financially. they got enough irons in the fire for a band that is winding down.

I can't believe they're not touring at all, even for a month or so. Obviously Gregg, Warren, Oteil & Derek don't mind touring since they all have dates this summer. Something tells me the back line doesn't want to go out. Gregg's been playing a song he & Warren wrote called "Just Another Rider" so hopefully there are others. I still hope for another record from them.

I'd bet that's a good part of it. For a band like them, the cost of doing a CD compared to the amount they'd sell probably doesn't math out. It would have to be a pure labor of love.

Got to agree. We should enjoy the road gigs when ABB tours. The solo projects seem to be on the front burner, and that's a pretty good thing, as it spreads the musical wealth around. And Gregg's got a new CD coming out. So, things look pretty darn good.

Isn't that the reason they are in this?

Truth be told, I'll bet it's more along the lines of Warren being the only one who writes with any sense of consistency....

I'll disagree about the cost. With Derek and Gregg both building studios, the only pre mastering cost is lodging and internal accounting. I think you can make a lot of money producing your own product and marketing it to an obsessive fan base thru concerts and the net. I remember reading an interview with Oteil about the time HTN came out where he talked about being disappointed that they didn't self-release.

IMHO this is another in a series of short sighted business decisions dating back to the marketing of Hitting the Note. New product, even if recorded live in the studio gives the fan base another reason to buy tickets and live recordings

Recording via computer isn't much different if you do it in Warren's living room or in some high dollar studio. The actual difference is $ out of pocket. As far as distribution of studio product? well they have no problem slinging archive cds on the internet. My guess is lack of good material that fits the ABB sound. Warren does write alot, but not ALL of it would jive on an ABB record.

If the Derek Trucks Band and Gov't Mule can continue to put out well produced, professional material that is distributed by the largest distribution arms in the music business, there is no reason the ABB could not. I could not imagine being in a band with Derek Trucks this long (+ Oteil) and not want to create something new (beyond one very good record) that can be documented for eternity. I'd do it just to give to my friends!

And clearly, Warren & Derek and Gregg are not going to work hard at writing new music, or set aside new ideas for the ABB, if they aren't going to go to the studio.

They've written some great new ideas & songs. The new section of NOTRW, new section of Rockin Horse, Bag End and have arranged some cool covers like Who's Been Talking that a new album could be done. Butch's comment that they ABB are not a good studio band couldn't be more wrong, as far as product is concerned.

Oh well, I've given up on the hope that we'll see anything new from the ABB and just enjoy what I'm given. I never really expected what we've gotten over the last 20+ years so who am I to be disapointed.
