x2 I would also put Bozzio above Peart...

where would Phil Collins fit in.. pretty good drummer back in the day as well, before he got too commercial.. imo..

Simon Phillips is my favorite.

Neil is great.

I don't like this google advertising on youtube. putting adds in copyrighted material.

And without any payment to Rush I'll bet.

Hmm...such a difficult question, with all the amazing drummers, over all the different genres.

My vote for technicality and creativity would have to go with Danny Carey.

I think I would have Gavin Harrison falling directly behind.

I am also a HUGE Jeff Sipe fan

Speaking of amazing drummers (among MANY other great instrumentalists), if you're lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area, check this out (Danny Carey and Vinnie Colaiuta, included):

Check out the band Steve Lukather put together...WOW!

Respectfully, I don't think Peart is the man at all. I have never thought he could really "swing". Who would put in his stead? Countless jazz players - Billy Cobham, Bill Stewart, Jack Dejohnette, Roy Haynes, Billy Martin, Lenny White etc, etc, etc.

All respect to you all but many of the names in this tread are one trick ponies including Buddy Rich...

Yeah you're correct. But it usually comes down to "favorite" and not "greatest",
thus a popularity contest. Nothing actually to do with ability.

I can play stuff by just about every name mentioned and I am far from the greatest drummer ever.

It's always difficult to say define 'the best' muscian/drummer/guitarist/songwriter/etc but for 'Living' drummers I would add Carl Palmer and Michael Shrieve to the top (along side others who have already been mentioned here)
