I know we have a lot of musicians who post in this forum.

If you folks wouldn't mind sharing a few anecdotes, tell us what kind of bands you've played in, and tell us about some of the different venues you did.

I'll be up front, I'd love to hear from someone who was in a country band and who played in a honky tonk like that one in the Blues Brothers.

Remember? With the chicken wire? lol

Have any of you ever played in some really cool jazz clubs?

I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences.

Anna

One contemporary styled band. Sort of a blend of jazz, blues, rock, and praise and worship. Played the lead guitar (electric). About 5 years with them.

Two bluegrass bands. One for 3 years and the other for about 2. Played acoustic lead guitar and dobro, and a bit of banjo.

Currently playing electric lead guitar with a country gospel group.

I haven't checked that out yet.

I've been to some nice clubs when I would come up on vacation but haven't done much this week. I did go on a seven mile hike to some falls yesterday, but I guess that's off topic!

Bass player in River Run, the best living room band in at least a three block area. Actually had a nice setlist of covers going until the guitar player moved to Starkville (enrolled at MSU) and the drummer lost everything to a bad coke addiction and also moved. An unfortunate breakup, because that was some of the most fun I've ever had.

I played in a pseudo punk rock band for a gong show we had at my high school. We got gonged!

On a side note. We "recorded" a song during the rehearsal called "Right Hand Love". It was the #1 requested song at Pomona Pitzer a few weeks later. The guy who wrote it mailed a copy (cassette) to Rodney Bingenheimer (sp?) to play on his weekly show. It got returned to Tony unopened the following week.

Rock N' Roll!

We have a blast when we play.

We are very "open ended" with our music. Once we start we have no idea how many verses we will do, how many solos we take, how long those solos will be, etc. A lot of times it depends on how the people there are responding.

And yes, we do meet some really great folks.

Yep, a good 'chicken wire' story.
I was playing in Macon Ga about 30 years ago with Bubba Jackson, friend of Dickey's that lived out at the Greene Settlement....his band was booked at a place called
the "Downtown Kountry Club"...yes, spelled like that. When I walked in to set up, I noticed the 'chicken wire' across the entire front of the stage, like a cage. For a rookie,
it was quite a sight. I asked the guys about it and they just laughed and said "you'll see".
Well, we opened the show with Statesboro and immediately beer bottles were bouncing off the wire. It scared the hell outa me...but then realized that if they liked you, the thing to do was to throw their bottle against the wire and rattle the 'cage'. I never did get used to that the whole nite. I kept ducking every time a bottle was thrown.

We had a band that played original music and could find a place to play. So we rented the VFW hut in our hometown and put the word out. They wouldn't let you charge admission, but you could ask for donations. We got this big ass friend of ours, a biker, to make sure nobody came in without donating. The place was packed and we actually got paid like rock stars ... well for Mooresville anyways. During the show while I was singing I caught out of the corner of my eye a flying projectile! Ducked in time and missed being hit. Come to fing out it was one of my bes friends AFU on Xanax and Killian's Red Ale. They banned "rock shows" after that so you can say we closed the Mooresville VFW. They turned it into a Christian Mission and everytime I go to make a donation I have to smile. If those walls could talk.
