Has anyone seen the show on Comedy Central, Tosh.O? I caught it last night on the plane for the first time and this reminded me of it. Very funny stuff.

That is like real life, people wanting something for free or substituting attention for money.

Nobody wants to pay for using any of my photographs but they will give me a photo credit. I can pay the electric bill with that

Most people won't pay a cent for anything they see online unless they are ordering from ebay or amazon.

To tell you the truth, I act the same way on line.

I guess my attitude is if people want me to see their product or their service they'll bring it to me. If I see something that really moves me, maybe I'll love it enough to pay for it.

But that's a big "MAYBE".

It has to be something that I feel is really worth the money, something that nobody else is offering.

Let me get this straight..

You read my post and what you took from it was that I had seen your work and decided it was the same as what everybody else was doing?

Given what I actually wrote, I find that odd.

However I wish the best of luck with your online sales.

Well, like I said brofan...

If someone wants me to see what their doing online, they have to find a way to bring it to me. I'm not paying for anything unless I truly love it. Like all of us, I get bombarded with online offers everyday.

I enjoy reading newspapers online everyday, but if they wanted to charge me I'd drop it. There are just too many other places where I can read news for free and that's just the way it is.

Likewise, I don't pay for cable anymore. Almost every single TV show is available online for free.

Most of us expect our online activity to be free. Any attempts to charge us for it will be met with severe skepticism.

I routinely download and share stuff with my friends all the time.

Sorry, but I have a fundamental disagreement with your expectations of what should be "free." I have other friends that I disagree with about this and we'll never see eye-to-eye.

Basically you don't believe that anyone should be paid for the fruits of their labor, including artist like the ABB - if you can steal it somewhere for free.

It's a moral issue.

I don't want to get in the middle of this, but I will say that trying to sell images online is like trying to sell seawater at the beach. There are millions of images here free for the taking. I think there are some things that sell well online, and others that are best sold to people who can see them with their own eyes, and let their emotional reaction make the sale. I'm sure there are people who see images online, and will pay for prints. I just wouldn't think there would be as many as would buy them in person. Just my thoughts, and they could be wrong.

I'll be straight with you I was insulted by that line. I that sounds like my work is the same as everyone else out there.

Now on to my original post

I wasn't talking about selling online. I was talking about selling any art in general anywhere anyplace at anytime. Everybody wants your work for free. People think that because they have a camera they can take the same shot. I'm far from being Ansel Adams but I think I have a perspective that a lot of people don't when I compose a shot.

The J B Speed Art Museum at the University of Louisville asked all area artists to donate a 5"x7" piece of art that they could sell for $27. Local artists started a Facebook group call J B Speed...Baloney. They made 5x7 pieces of art out of baloney and donated them to the museum

Actually, all of the things I listed are available legally, for free. So is a lot of music.

Watching TV on a site like Hulu is completely legal, so far as I know. Getting most images online is 100% legal and most sites like the traffic.

When it comes to a band like the ABB, the one thing that would still make me want to buy their product is the fact that the quality of the sound is usually better, and the array of products is greater. But look at how much music even the ABB makes available free and legal online, with sites like pandora and youtube.

The legality of torrents seem to be up in there air, as is file sharing. We will see how all that plays out in the long run.

Best of luck to you, my friend and fellow fan.

I can't imagine trying to sell something online that is widely available for free.

But if your pics are something special, maybe you'll buck the trend!
