Lowell George was born on April 13 1945 and would be 65 today. He left behind one of the greatest discographies of all time with the music he did with Little Feat. RIP Lowell

Nice post, I've been playing the hell out of Sailin' Shoes and Dixie Chicken lately. Another great one gone way too soon (only 34 when he passed).

Next to Duane Allman, Lowell was the most important influence in my musical background. The character of his voice and his ability to reach down and write about his experiences are a perfect compliment to his slide playing... like Duane he was taken from us way too soon...

You are missed my friend...

Happy Happy Birthday my dear Lowell, I am still singing the Apolitical Blues, GA is still singing Fatman in the bathtub. You were the best and are missed so much.

I feel very fortunate to have lived in the DC area back in the day while Lowell was alive. Littlle Feat would do 3-5 night runs at either the Lisner Auditorium or the Warner Theatre, doing 2 shows a night. I still remeber exactly where I was when I heard the news about his death and I can't drive past the Key Bridg Marriott without thinling about him.

Happy Birthday Lowell, I'm still Missing You.

It definately is a blessing to be the fortunate ones to see some many who have passed. I consider it an honor.

To paraphrase Bonnie Raitt " I miss Lowell George more than I miss being 8 years old" Can't imagine my life's soundtrack without Lowell & Duane. Got to see & hear Lowell live one time only, burned into my braincells forever. Happy Birthday big guy!

One of the most multi-talented artists ever.

I love the story about Frank Zappa telling Lowell, "Go start your own band, jerk!"

Man, did he ever.....

I have read that Lowell George wanted to use his song "Willin'" with Zappa but Zappa refused because of the drug references in the lyrics. I know Zappa was anti-drug, but you have to wonder if he wasn't at least a little threatened by George's songwriting talent as well. "Willin'" is my favorite Little Feat song.

I don't recall exactly, but I saw Little Feat something around 20 times between '76-78 (and usually unintentionally)....seems like about half the concerts I attended in that time frame, Little Feat was the opening act or somewhere on the bill. After that first time, though, I was hooked.

Oh, and belated happy birthday to you, too, Garry.

Love this quote!!! I'm with Bonnie on this one. Thank you Lowell for enriching this girls life over the years with your wonderful music. Hope you're feeling these loving hugs being sent your way.
