In New York City, a place where Dickey Betts had had many great achievements, he played what will possibly become his last touring date on December 12, 2009, his 66th birthday.

"Iím not retiring from playing. Iím sure there will be some great special events that Iíll be at in the future. But for now, I look forward to waking up tomorrow with nothing on my schedule."

It's hittin home harder now since the past few years around late Spring he'd blow the roof off of Ridgefield Playhouse in CT and there's obviously no DB&GS shows this year or seemingly again. It's been a great night of music in a great little town.

True, but this poster has obviously just now heard the news...so its *new news* to him, and therefore its appropriate to post about it.

Tburgmike...

Yes, Dickey has apparently "retired" from full time touring. And of course the ABB have scaled back as well.

Time goes by and we tend to slow down as we age. We have had 40 years of musical bliss from the ABB and Dickey. And thankfully tons of recordings to listen to.

We have much to be thankfull for.

Really? So if I had just emerged from a cave and learned the Saints won the Superbowl, I should start a new thread about it? Or should I utilize the search feature instead?

Besides, all he did was repeat the news w/o comment. A long time to wait for nothing.

Not from me, Mike.

It was great to see you in NYC. You're one of the good guys and always have been. Some get a bit (!) sensitive about Dickey threads around here. They usually go downhill REAL fast.

Have you ever been on the road? People need many months of rest after touring.

I completely agree that if he just found out that it's fine to post, I know I've unknowingly posted something after someone else and had similar treatment.

Having said that, I couldn't help but thing of the clip below. Maybe he was on Hibernol?

You know, you're right. Here are some topic ideas we've been knocking around at the newsdesk of Brox News. Mind you, we don't intend to comment at all about them, our motto being "We report (stale news), you decide."

Lincoln Assasinated!

Japanese Surrender (sorry, the German defeat is still a little painful to address)!

Clapton plays w/ Allmans!

ABB Tour Manager asked to step down (do we know our audience, or what?)!

And this just in, and we're still checking our sources, but we hear the ABB intend to play somewhere in GA in 2010. Please stay tuned for the best old news anywhere!

I'm just glad that I was able to see him one last time back in March 2009 up in Cleveland. A great night of music indeed.

Dickey. Do what ever makes you happy. You've more than earned it ...
