I'm not complaining this year...I sold a house where the taxes were $12,000.00 a year. I bought a new house so I was able to get the $6,500.00 tax credit. Those credits offset the taxes I had to pay on alimony...in the end I did ok, it's my largest refund ever....and I'm sure it'll never be this much again.

PS - I live in NJ and God knows what shake-ups will be in store or us down the road.

The pain in NJ is only just starting, and it's about time someone stepped up and said enough with the out of control taxes and spending. I find it pretty funny that the teachers are screaming that they don't get a raise or if they get a raise some people get laid off, be happy you are earning and stop whining.

I hear you. I hope he does what he says he's going to...someone has to do something...it's very hard to be able to afford to live here.

That depends on where in the South. I pay $6500 on a 1850 square foot house in intown Atlanta....but we all have tradeoffs in choosing where to live.

I had too much of an IRS refund this year as my income fluctuated. I'm going to track it to try to get it closer to $0 this year.

My property taxes are @ $1700 for an 1800 SF home in Columbia County, GA, but they seem to go up at least $100 every year.

And I'm getting a good federal refund this year, but I'm not saying how much. Doesn't matter, though. It's already spent.

YES! That is what my ex and I paid on a 3,000 sq. ft. home on half an acre in South Jersey. The property taxes in North Jersey are even higher. I bought an 1,800 sq. ft. townhouse in November. My estimated taxes are just under $6,000.00 a year. Still a lot, but soooooo much better than what I was paying before...

I am 15 minutes west of Charlotte. Charlotte taxes are higher too. I was wrong, I rechecked my taxes were 1100 bucks. Still much lower than some of you folks. If I lived in the city limits it would be higher...........I guess there is nowhere to run to escape these crazy high property taxes............Its got to where the government is working the budget backwards. It use to be you budgeted what you brought in, now they divide up what they need and assess.......

Taxes are $15,500 ...... Yes that's right $15,000 ..... on the plus side . I'm getting a hefty refund back this year . More than a third of my property taxes.

Also, do not forget: The US Postal Service will be CLOSED April 15th!!!

Do NOT wait till the last day as the Postal Service will NOT be accepting mail on the 15th.

Closed? Traditionally they have held tax parties up here, people waiting for the last day to send their returns in and it becomes a party, snacks and music too.

No refund here. Last year I got one, so I know Uncle Sam gave me the finger, and it wasn't a thumbs up to increase my karma!

$1100 a year for property taxes here in NE Jacksonville on my new 1000 sq foot home; it sits on 2 acres so i'm not complaining...sounds like it woulda been 11,000 if i had it built in NJ!!

though....holy cow, the appraised value vs. what i owe is pretty damn scary

Why would the post office be closed on Thursday April 15th this year?

My real estate taxes are $8000 on my house which is on 3 acres and is 3000 square feet and $1800 on a vacant 2.5 acre lot on the Wakulla river
