I don't know if this got by me the first time, or if he was only recently added. I think the latter, because despite my quick perusal of the line-up, I caught Bert Jansch right away, and Stefan Grossman's name would have grabbed me like ELVIS PRESLEY flashing in neon lights.

Anyway, what promises to be an incredible day just got better! Stefan has been one of my favorite artists for about 25 years now - and is without question my favorite acoustic picker - but I've never been able to catch him live.

This is incredible news! Thank God! Thank Stefan! Thank Kitty!

I wonder if he'll put on a clinic? Man, that would be fantastic.

Can you tell I'm stoked?

ReallyReally looking forward to this day of music and fun! I wouldn't be surprised if he is involved in the clinics, Randy ... isn't he fairly involved in sharing his knowledge (and talent)? Glad you're getting your Stefan performance!

I've never heard of Stefan Grossman, Pino Daniele, Joao Gilberto, Gary Clark Jr., Earl Klugh, or Bert Jansch. What kind of music do each of these players play? I'm curious if anyone would recommend any albums of any of these artists?

Yes, Deb - he's a prolific publisher of books, instructional videos, book and tape/disc combos, etc.

In the "long box" days of CD's, just about everything coming out of his "Guitar Artistry" series on Shanachie featured a songbook with tab and standard notation for the aspiring fingerstyle player. And I still have every one I ever bought!

This is the coolest!

For those interested in checking out Stefan's playing, I'd recommend starting here:

I'm currently (on and off) working on some improvisations in this style:

Here are the ones I'm familiar with...

Bert Jansch - acoustic English Folk-Rock...any album by the group "PENTANGLE" (co-guitarist John Renbourn is also great!)

Earl Klugh - nylon string guitar, what is now referred to as "smooth jazz". I'd recommend either Heart String or Finger Paintings albums (I think those are his first two)

Joao Gilberto - Latin Jazz/Bossa Nova...the Getz-Gilberto album is a groundbreaker & an all-time classic. Gilberto played with Antonio Carlos Jobim (think "Girl From Ipanema")
