I COMPLETELY agree! WOW! That is one killer version.
That and 8/1/03 Montage are by far the 2 best versions of Illness ever...
Karl Denson added so much to those 2 versions its incredible! He doesn't just solo he "Plays" the songs most intricate parts along with Derek and Warren note for note. Its like he was born to play that tune. I have so much respect for Karl since the summer. Those Desdemona solos kick major ass. Did ya hear his solo from Red Rocks on Desdemona?...elephant type sounds like Coltrane used to do. Just nuts...

Thanks for bringing it up Brother Sandman...If its not obvious, I agree

You said it EddieP.....Karl takes that song to another level....

8/1 and 8/10 are, without a doubt, the best two versions of that song. There's really no debate....heh

Sandman, I'm with ya on Inst. Illness. I'm finding a lot to like on these inst. live shows. When Hittin the Note came out and i saw Heart of Stone on it I thought wow, cool, but wasn't impressed with the cover. Does any one else think they nailed it on the 7/26 Pittsburgh show?

I think the 8/9 & 8/10 shows are some of the best recordings I have ever heard from this line up.

They just sound fantastic-and Oteil sounds SWEET from the SB.

Still haven't heard the 10th, but I hope to soon. What a sick show that must've been. Karl Denson contributed in a huge way to some of the highlights of the summer for the ABB.

I agree with everyone, however, I think being able to hear these recordings with such clarity helps! I think a soundboard of every show ever played or ever will be played should be released! - I really enjoyed the "Wasted Words" & "Into the Mystic" on 8/10 too.

I have both the 8-9 and 8-10 shows, and yes I am biased b/c I was at 8-9, but as impressive as the Illness was on 8-10 (Raleigh), I really preferred his work on Desdemona on 8-9 (Charlotte).
