Greg just said "thank ya'll for coming way up town"...

..."next years there's probably gonna come a change".

Sounds like one and done at the Palace.

If they do intend to go back to the Beacon (and they probably do), what is the point of saying so while at the Palace? It's disrespectful and counterproductive. Why should the Palace staff go the extra mile during the remaining shows? Gregg, quiet you!

Maybe with all of the "this is it for the ABB" rumors he wanted to keep the vibe alive.

I agree with that 100%. Beacon like a police state now. Maybe the band could negotiate with them a little on the subject when they cut the new deal? Palace no bargain outside though, they threw a bunch of people in jail before the Thursday show.

And Brock, I had the same thought...the Palace prob not so keen on chatter like that.

Seems more likely. I understand if Cirque gets going they will be there for a good long time. I know they've gotten a lot of bad press, and people here are taking a little pleasure in their struggles, and while I've never been, people I respect say the shows are amazing.

You might be right, though I don't think they should. Kinda a shame. Back to the pricey bars and restaurants and the overly shiny and white glove Beacon.

It was a change this year and a shake up. I don't think that ticket sales were SO terrible, but clearly not as good as they have been at the Beacon. I bet that if they stuck around up here, they'd have a better turn out for the run next year. The whole area is WAY more ABB than the upper west side and the homogenized Beacon.

The Beacon showed them no love. Why run back to them? As for other choices....the Nokia? Do you REALLY want to see the ABB in the middle of Hell on Earth...aka Times Square. Leave that place to all the tourist boobs who think authentic New York is a dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Agreed.

Why go back to ppl who screwed you?

I also think being kicked out made the Bros play even better. Thursday was probably the best ABB show I've ever seen.

I hope they do Roseland or Hammerstien next year. The UP is too far away from everything.

As for the Beacon, I would like nothing better than to see Banana Schpeel fall on its face and have MSG come back to the band begging them to come back. And then have the band say no.

The whole Circque thing was handled so poorly and it seems to me the band treated so badly (Butch mentioned they had taken a little less every year to remain at the Beacon) that I feel like they should let the Beacon sweat it out.

At first I understood them booking Cirque - more money. Can't argue with that. But I would have thought they had a show together! WHY kick out a sure thing in March - one that adds to your brand name like no other - if you don't even have a show ready to go?!?! Stupid.

Here endeth the rant/

That certainly is good news! We can also only hope that next year they don't try to sell Platinum, Silver and Gold packages again just so they end up releasing them later on in the process at the more reasonable prices.

I think they will be back at the Beacon as well. I've had a great time there at the shows, even post-Dolan. It is much easier to see the shows at the Beacon. The only good seats at the UP are in the first 20 rows center and the lower loge center and left/right center and the upper loge, first few rows. The front 15 rows orch are all $150 + fees (up from the first 10 rows at the Beacon); the lower loge is $150 + also; the back orch (and they go way wack to @ 40 rows) is $100 + as is the upper loge. The only affordable seats are in the balcony and they are way up there for $60 +.

The balcony seats at UP are bad. Half the time you can't even see. So many distractions with people standing to get beer or go to the bathroom or dance or walking through the walkway between the upper loge and the balcony. I had a hard time watching the fri/sat shows through my binoculars but managed to see most of Derek's solos.

If we got to pay these high prices I'd rather not have to trek to the UP. Plus the UP has been a financial disaster for the ABB. They couldn't sell out any of the 8 shows and canceled 5 more.

The Beacon is a cash cow for the ABB. Sell outs every night. If they do come back I will spring for the $100 lower balcony seats, my favorite at the Beacon. I'm tired of people getting in the way of me seeing Derek play, the only reason I keep going back multiple times each run.

I just can't see ABB returning to the UP next year. Cancel the VIP packages, keep the pricing structure and play the Beacon next year. My prediction especially after what Gregg said. I don't think he meant any disrespect to the UP staff who have been great. I'll take a pat down to go back to the Beacon. And if you behave yourself the staff won't bother you.

Just my 2 cents from someone who saw the last 3 shows and is seeing the last 3. I think the band is playing as well as ever, particularly with the way Derek mesmerized the crowd with his intense and ferocious playing last night.

peace,
NM

watch out northern man, you'll get negative karma around here if you complain any which way, whatsoever about the venue. washington heights is a beautiful, ethnically diverse neighborhood, the reason why ABB couldn't sell out any shows is because the united palace seats 400 more people, the same 2800 that went to the beacon are going up to beautiful washington heights to see the shows. if only the seating capacity was 2800 there.........

He mentioned during the second night's show (3/13), "next year we'll be back at the Beacon", and he said (I can't remember the person's name, Joe or Mike) told him so. So that's kind of official since he said that.

doster,
i said what i thought because I think it is the truth. Yes 1 person gave me negative karma. So be it. I don't get into fights on here and I don't troll.

Fact is I've been at every show except 3/11 and 3/16. How many of you are going to 6 shows?

If I was not willing to go to the venue or complaining about it, I would have not added 2 MORE shows after the last 2 got canceled. Nothing was going to get in the way of me getting my Derek fix. And I was fortunate to be at Monday's show where Derek topped even the best of his performances I've seen in the 40 + times I've seen ABB/DTB play.

I was merely commenting on Greg's remark which everybody heard. I was there.

my post on the 3/15 show about derek earned me 2 positive karmas.

when i make my 5th straight ABB complete run offer, my karma will go up. look out for that shortly after the run. i don't make people reoffer, i just want to get the shows into people's hands.

i don't think the # of seats is the problem. if you do the math, 400 extra seats x 8 shows = 3,200 extra seats, equivalent to 1 more show at the beacon with 400 extra seats.

my quibble is not at all with the venue. it is with the VIP pricing, the higher pricing and virtually no affordable seats. if you want a good seat you have to pay $150. Not so at the Beacon.

plus greg has said we'll probably be back at the beacon.

maybe he should get the negative feedback

doster, I'm giving you a positive karma !

peace,
NM

Went to 15 & 16.
Slid down per the usher's reco in the balcony on Monday. Row cc in front of Gregg on Tuesday. Did my own personal sound check bith nights: Sound near the walls (seats outside of the outer aisles) is tinny and hollow. Middle is way better than wide. Good up front - not too much stage amp overrun.

Performances very intense as described previously. Liked the neighborhood. Good food, good vibe. Definitely harder to get to than the beacon. We just took cabs both ways both nights. Tuesday's crowd was a little bigger, but not by much. Had to be 300 emptys in the balcony each night. Crackdown on smoking for sure, beer a little spendy - small cups. Bathroom crowded, just avoid the set break.

Much preferred Monday's set list to Tuesday's, but both had interesting variety. Monday's second set jams were super thick. Nice to able to replay on Moogis.

Back to the real world............Cheers.

I think the key indicator that they're Beacon Bound next year is this:

The "NO BEACON" slide has been removed from the slide show.

Seems like they came to some kind of arrangement and part of the agreement was to remove the slide! LOL!

Show was as tight as it's been in recent years...but the security was hellacious. Quite frankly it ruined the show - constant hassles the entire evening - shining flashlights at you constantly. The vibe was not at the UP - can't remember ever not standing for a least half the show. I dream of the Beacon of old.
