Pretty much never. They played it inside Little Martha once or twice last year and again last night. I think that's about it.

They played the whole thing in Atlanta in '04. They shouldn't have.

Blue Sky is one of my favorite ABB songs, it's just had a special meaning to me for a lot of reasons, and many other fans too I'm sure. I wish Dickey were in the band and playing it with them, but he's not. It's not the same without him, but I wouldn't mind hearing this lineup's take on it once in a while. Rather than taking it as a sign of disrespect, they could do it as a way to say even though their differences make it impossible for him to be in the band, they still respect him as a musician and songwriter.

They broke it out in late '04 in support of the Eat A Peach broadcast on satellite radio, then played it a bit more in '05 (I think) and not much if at all since

You have to say that from a pure "beautiful song" perspective, it's near the top of the ABB roster and for me, all music roster. It's happy, it's positive, fantastic arrangement, simply makes me feel good listening to it. Much like Jessica.

I'd like them to play it when Susan sits in and have her sing it.

If you count that as a full version, it was the first time in five years. Here's a list of the times they've played the song since Dickey's exit. It was performed with lyrics all these other times, and the guitar players sometimes play bits of it in other songs, like No One to Run With on Thursday.

Sep 25, 2004 - Fox Theatre Atlanta, Georgia
Oct 1, 2004 - Alltel Pavilion Raleigh, North Carolina
Oct 8, 2004 - Smirnoff Music Centre Dallas, Texas
Oct 10, 2004 - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Mar 21, 2005 - Beacon Theatre New York, New York
Mar 13, 2010 - United Palace Theatre New York, New York

Dickey Betts knows how to inhabit that song. For me the song has a spiritual connection to Duane Allman maybe because I imagine what the song could have become if Duane lived.
The band today is a different band than the one Dickey played in. I think the band today is better off going with Egypt because that is their strength.

Me too. I think it's cool they way they did it. It would be a mistake to include the vocals in my opinion. It's Dickey's song to sing.

Yeah, I was wondering if Gregg or Warren was going to kick in some vocals at some point in the song. I have a Cd with Gregg singing it. It was where they did Eat a Peach on the radio. Can't remember which station. Gregg did a pretty good job, but I do prefer Dickey singing it.......

March 23, 2009 at the Beacon they did Little Martha>Blue Sky> Little Martha with full band as an instrumental. Just listened to it on Saturady Morning.

Is that the one where Gregg says "I never thought I'd be singing this song"? I heard that last year on XM radio.

I've been hearing Derek tease it a lot over the past couple of years, both with the Bros. and with dTb. He's been injecting it into "Anyday" a lot, with both bands. There's a lovely example of this from the Charlotte ABB/WSP date last Oct, when Warren was absent (Jimmy and Danny sitting). Lots of beautiful interplay between Derek and Danny. The "Blue Sky" jam was a whopping 4mins long, beginning at around 9:15. Beautiful.

They also played the instrumental middle section (like last night) last year wrapped in Little Martha. They also did a full version on approx Sept 28, 2004 when they did the Eat a Peach re-creation for XM radio. I loved hearing them do it live and on tape in 2004/2005. Cool thing about 3/21/05 was that it also included a solo by Chuck Leavell.

3/23/09 was the other time the Brothers did the middle instrumental section to Blue Sky sandwiched in Little Martha like they did last night. Here's a youtube of it since the setlist listed here doesn't indicate it:

Billy....yes. A+ copies of the Brothers doing Eat a Peach in the XM studios were captured. Shoot me a PM and I'll get you hooked up. It's a dynamite performance.
