sorry to burst anyone bubble, and let me tell you, im the most optimistic person., i went to the show last night thinking how im gonna try to go to more. but my honest opinion is like this.
Venue...SUCKED
SOUND.. SUCKED
Neighborhood...SUCKED
Security.. SUCKED

ok i parked my car 3 blocks away, after the show i thought i was gonna get mugged about 3 times. as soon as they started playing i could tell this isn't even CLOSE to the beacon sound. i felt like i was watching a show in an aluminum box, it doesn't even compare. i honestly couldn't even hear gregg that well, and my seats were row A center on the floor. think security is gonna be cool?? WRONG! bunch of morons that i guess run the church busted everyone for smoking i even saw two guys get kicked out ( 150 dollar seats!!) its like police academy back in training. the show itself??? was defiantly not bad, but didn't blow me away either, had some sick moments, but like i said everything else IMO sucked royaly SUCKED. before the show last night i was saying **** THE BEACON!!!! were gonna make a new BEACON!!! after i left last night, i was MISSING the beacon and kinda pissed at the band for moving into that neighborhood ( which by the way is NOT easy to get too by car or by train. was pissed they canceled the last 5 shows, but now im not. usually after the first show i cant wait to go to more, but after last night, i think that was it. like i said sorry to burst anyones bubble, BUT THAT PLACE SUCKS. PERIOD.

response to hater...
Venue...did not suck. How about them wide seats and wide aisles?
Sound...they adjusted as they went on. There were highs and lows, but overall it improved as the show went along.
Neighborhood...is probably too cool for you to appreciate.
Security...did you miss the cavity search from last year or something? No stop at the door, and only minor hassles when someone blazed up.

If you were that unhappy and have tix for other nights I'm sure you can donate them.

Where is the review for the show? You didn't even state one song that was played. Why did you feel like you were going to be mugged? You neglected to write about that as well. My guess is that you saw people that looked different from yourself. I mean did they approach you or did they just look the part in your opinion. Paranoia is the downfall of a lot of people and unjustifiably so. I do have a solution to your many issues with the Heights and the UPT however- STAY AT HOME!!! That way the rest of us can have a good time

im not a hater and i had about 20 friends there last night that all agreed with me. wide aisles?? and seats?? are you serious?? i don't even think this guy was there. and go tell those 4 or 5 people i saw get kicked out for smoking if security was not bothering people. call me what you want , but a hater??? your just a moron, i spend more money on ABB shows then any other shows, so i go to alot of them. next time say something smart, don't call people haters because they don't agree with your opinion stupid. that place sucked, if you liked it fine, but IN NO WAY DOES IT COMPARE TO THE BEACON. and the most IMPORTANT thing is SOUND, and it sounded like a an aluminum box, sorry bro, i know it was your first show, glad you were excited.

Lets see smoking is illegal in the building so when they tell ya to stop, **** ING STOP! If youre a dick to security they will be a dick to you.
It sounded fine as they made adjustments. Maybe you should stay in the aluminum box
WOW cant believe I didnt get mugged last night!

Sorry to hear you had a bad time at the show. I sat in Row R of the Orchestra and while the crowd noise was a little more loud than I would have liked but everything else was great. I though the Security people were professional and caring, at least where I sat. No problems with any security people breaking shoes for anything, and there was plenty to break shoes on if they wanted to.

You mentioned the Beacon three times in your post, you're right it's not the Beacon, I didn't think it was going to be. We were able to park less than a block from the theatre and walked six blocks to Coogan's. I didn't feel endangered at all but I don't easily get threatened. Gregg's vocals did seem low to me also though. I don't think the place or the staff sucked though and I'm going to go to at leat one more show.

Be safe.

the neighborhood is a poophole no matter which way you slice it.
it's keeping a lot of people from the shows notice how not one has sold out yet?
you couldn't pay someone to take any extras last night.
the almighty allmans are walking away from the united palace with a bruised ego.
out of all the 3000 seat venues in manhattan.....

The United Palace Theatre is not in Spanish Harlem, maybe you went to the wrong show.

Be safe.

the only way to get rid of tickets is to DONATE them, you cant sell them , people don't want them for face value, and tickets are still on sale for every show...hmmm why do you think that is???

and excuse me, but it IS Spanish Harlem, get your facts straight, im sure i was at the right show, how many half empty allman brothers shows with **** ty sound were there last night???

watch out mim, these allman zombies around here scream judas if you don't kiss the bands arse
moving to rev ike's church was a huge mistake. the old crew from the beacon runs security, but they have to play by the church's rules.
i bet all the heavy hitters who bought the 300 dollar seats are real happy.. one of the allman's road crew couldnt' sell AA orch seats last night for a nickle.

take care and know that you are loved

MiMDog how was police presence outside the venue? Some years the surrounding area of the Beacon was filled with cops and squad cars. Just wondering about the Harlem precient

cops right outside the venue minding their own business.
they were usually stuffing the fat, over-paid faces with flan from the local bakeries and coffee

major cops in front, def more then the beacon. p.s. you dont need to buy tickets online, just walk up to the box office and get as many as you want, no line( only if you wanna pay face, im sure you can find MUCH cheaper). tonight and tommorrw is gonna rain HARD so even less people, the perfect storm.

Spanish Harlem is on the East Side. UP is in Washington Heights.

Seriously if you live in NYC who the hell drives uptown for a show?

As for this mimsy character - sounds and writes like a whiny high school girl. If you miss the Beacon so much, then don't come to the shows and tell everyone you're standing on principle. Yeah I miss the Beacon too; but the Beacon pre-Dolan. The renovation is nice and all but the vibe the last two years is what truly sucked.

There was a heavy police presence after the show last night. No problems.

All I'm hearing is whining, whining, and more whining. Yes, we'd all rather be at the Beacon, but the show goes on, and last night's performance was incredible. The sound in the first song was a bit off, but they rectified the problem. And everyone bitching about the neighborhood, give it a rest. I parked FIVE blocks away from the venue, and did not once feel unsafe while walking to and from the show. I plan on doing the same thing when I go again on Monday. MimDog, you were born in NYC, yet youre scared of the area? Where are you from, the Upper East Side? Haha The fact that the Allmans had to move is a blessing in a way, because it lit a fire under their ass, and let's face it, excluding the guest-heavy 2009 run, the shows there are predictable.

I know the sales are hurting, which is a shame, but if the fans were REAL fans they'd travel the 100 blocks further north to see their "favorite band". You've all gotten too complacent. Roll with the punches.

Can we get a ruling on the spanish harlem thing?

The two look pretty close to each other on google maps, but what do I know?

Washington Heights is predominantly Hispanic, Dominican to be more specific, so I guess that would make it Spanish Harlem? I dont know.
