Think the Allmans position on the Beacon was established early last night....
Within the first 2 minutes, after the Yankees graphic, and old band pics, a picture of the Beacon flashed up on the screen with a big red circle and slash through it, to the cheers of the crowd.

Tickets are pricy (but you can get in cheaper thats for sure), but these guys played last night like they want the Dolans to come crawling back to them.... it was a triumph last night for sure.

Thanks for sharing that little tidbit!

I wonder if they'll "flash it" every night of the run....

I've seen it every night. But last night, Gregg said something to the effect "something tells me we'll be back at the Beacon next year. Back at home."

It's funny because we're staying next to the Beacon and we went in to joke with the Beacon box office. Asked them if they had any ABB tix

Found out Banana Schpeel is delayed even more - April 29th is the expected start.

The restaurants around the Beacon are all a little pissed because they've counted on the ABB Beacon crowd every year.

Just listened to last night's "instant live" cd. My husband told me what Gregg "kind of " said. If you listen...he asks how everyone's doin'...then says "...this ain't the Beacon...we'll be there next year...sweet home Beacon..."

I'm guessing they miss it? But that didn't stop them from putting on a really great performance!

I'm freaking out for some of those french fries with brown gravy on them from the diner next door.

couldnt agree more mglowenstein...

superimposing duane and woody while warren and derek play takes away from what the guys on stage are doing. These guys are their own artists; they dont need to be compared to legends of the past in any way. They are doing there own thing, and they deserve to be recognized for their own talents...

And while the visuals are cool if you happen to stumble upon some funky mushrooms, they are most definitely tacky and about 10 years behind todays technology. But enough complaining about what I saw last night, because what I heard has never sounded better....

I am thinking they might be back at the Beacon next year.

http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/theater/bad_banana_turns_rotten_jhe0L ag60IaHhsWRUfFvRL

That being said, the UP is living up to be a decent alternative. It is king of a pain to get to and the seats in the back of the upper balc are a little far removed from the stage, but I can not think of another theatre in NYC that could have come this close to the Beacon experience.

Personally...I always liked the mushroom banners on either side of the stage...and that was all. Don't need any of the techno stuff (although I did like the "movies" that would play during the intermission). A lot of today's bands need to have lasers, pyro-technics, videos and what-not to fill in for what is usually short set lists.

When you have the music...no need for fluff!

that is funny - what did they say?

Also I HATE THE FREAKING GRAPHICS ON THE STUPID VIDEO BOARD. The sports logos are the tackiest, most pointless thing I've ever seen. Well, I guess not the tackiest because nothing on Earth could be tackier than superimposing (really poorly, I should add) pics of Duane & Woody next to Derek & Warren when they're soloing. I fully support tributes to these guys, and it's great they honor them on the video screen, but once they start superimposing I really get annoyed. I find it creepy and I don't think it serves anyone in the band, alive or dead. I've got no major beef with the mushroom graphics and the weird lady who emerges out of the psychedelic swirls in Liz Reed but generally speaking the video screen is a disaster, it makes the band look like they're decades behind the times, and it often annoys me to the point where it's tough to focus on the music. But I can deal with it... Just as long as they ditch the stupid sports graphics immediately!

I couldn't possibly agree more - well said! Those superimposed graphics, while meant to be a tribute (yeah yeah we get it) are really an insult to Warren, Derek and Otiel - imo

Gregg did say last nightin between songs something like:
"I guess next year we'll be back at the beacon"..
Wonder what he meant?
The UP was alright, nothing to make you say, "this
place is better than the beacon."

You guys are taking this superemposeing thing way to serious.
It,s not about comparing one other at all. This has been a
long standing tribute the band has been doing for many years.
Get with the program.

Had Malecon last night... It's about 100x better than any restaurant on the Upper West Side. I may have to go back tonight and there isn't even a show to be seen. It's that good.

I respectfully disagree. I love the Brotherhood of Lights show! I do however agree that they should exclude things like sports team's logos which did seem a bit tacky to me. I love the rest of the light show though and think it fits their music.

I like the light show/graphics thing. The sports logos were part of the whole tribute to NYC thing at the beginning.
Yankees and Jets got the biggest cheers on Friday. Woot!

The projection screen in the back is fine with me. I don't pay attention to it 99% of the time anyways. Not a big deal.

If they felt insulted by the graphics, they would not be there. I was there the first time they put Woody into one of those montages. It was at the Beacon, maybe in 2003. Warren seemed touched by the gesture. He kept trying to get Derek to look at the screen so he could see Woody up there.

My understanding is they are pretty sour on the entire Beacon debacle. They like the Palace, however, they are a little turned off by the ammenities issues (i.e 1 bathroom, Lack of restaurants and the over all travel). They make more money at the Palace and are able to produce the CD's because of the reduced venue costs. The reason why they never did CD's at the Beacon prior to 2009 was the increased $$$ the venue was charging them. The only reason why they did it for the 2009 run was they felt they would recoup their investment based on the speciality of the shows. I happen to like the acoustics better at the Palace, plus it has a real nice look and feel. That being said, the aura of the Beacon and the surrounding area is still a nice draw...although without Yogi's it would be a bit sad.

I love the super imposing of musicians on the big screen. I also love the mushroom graphics too. I don't see a thing wrong with it. Why do we have to criticize every move The ABB's make. Its there gig.....

I think the band could do away with flashing the NYPD logo. The NYPD are no friend of the band or the fans out there this year...NYPD acting like complete @ssholes.

WOW!!!! I knew Cirque was havinng problems but I just checked the TM site and every Cirque show through May 1st has been CANCELLED! Given the bad publicity I'm not sure they could sell tix even if they did get it together...serves Dolan right, jack@ss.

I could see how the venue change is a bummer for those who make a trip to NYC every year to stay a couple of days and meet up with friends at places that have become part of the experience. But as someone who lived in NYC for over 12 years and went home after the shows, etc., I wasn't that disturbed by the news, especially since the shows ended up at United palace which is a nice theatre as well. I saw Van Morrison there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Also, living in NYC and working in neighborhoods all over, I don't feel like the neighborhood is that bad. People have to be careful everywhere, but really none of Manhattan is that dicey anymore......maybe a few spots further up town.

I now live in Buffalo, and as it turns out couldn't get down for the shows this year anyway so it doesn't matter on my end, but i like the UP and if it turns out that they play there instead next year, that's fine. The Beacon runs were awesome, and it was a good run, but if it ends with the 40th anniv. shows, I can live with that.
