What a great first show!!

Glad to hear them pull this out tonight. Been a long time since I heard them do this tune. I got my Moogis tech difficulties together for this whole tune, and I thought they played it really great, I like the direction that tune is going to take in up coming performances. Thanks ABB

As much as I would love to hear "Back Where is All Begins" as well, I dont this it will happen. The band tends to avoid doing any songs with a Dickey vocal, but you can get snippets from time to time like the guitar solo of "Blue Sky"....we can hope though...

I hear ya John , I should have left off the first "B" . I was thinking about some of the other tunes on the album though . Sailin' 'Crosss The Devil's Sea , All Night Train , or Nobody Left To Run With wouldn't those be good to hear ?

I've never heard it before. What album is it on and is it a cool song?

"Kind" of strange they did this one since Butch indicated on the Then Again Now EAP redo he didn't care for it. And we know how Butch is when he doesn't care for something.

Shades of Two Worlds!

It was a nice long version too. Mule has been playing it but been so long since the Brothers have!

Granted that moogis was breaking up during this,

it had more of Mule feel to it than the 90's ABB

have to give it another chance with a "complete" listen
but it sounded alright

stratdal: As Sue already said, Kind of Bird is on Shades of Two Worlds, a 1991 record which was the second one the band made after reuniting in 1989. A very HOT jazz instrumental written by Dickey and Warren..........as the title implies, it's ABB's tribute to Charlie Parker. I saw Mule do it at The Fillmore in 2008 and they about blew the roof off of the place. I'm dying to hear ABB's new version.............Warren and Derek must be just killing this.

I totally missed it last night since Moogis froze for 15 minutes. When it finally came back on it was intermission which was completely trouble-free. Then the second set was almost as terrible and I turned it off. I'm hoping last night's show is up to watch today.

I haven't. I'm waiting to see how it goes tonight. Last year I would have recommended it to everyone, this year...not.

Best "bustout" since?????

I'm going with Layla in 2005.

Dare we dream of True Gravity? That would be sweet By playing Kind Of Bird, it seems like the "Dickey/Warren co-written instrumental" door has been opened.

"True Gravity" would be awesome. Kind Of Bird is a great bustout, I can't wait to hear it. I hope they have a few more from the 90's records to add. There's plenty of great songs they've been ignoring.

I may stand alone on this one, but I would really like to hear High Falls again too.

Don't think True Gravity is in the cards. They gave enough clues on the webchats that I wasn't surprised about Kind of Bird. I always thought the faux ending in the backhalf of Kind of brid could be a neat smooth section (like in the second half of Mountain Jam) using the melody they establish with the faux last notes - Derek could slide all over it. But they were true to the original at that part. Need to hear it again as I was having moogis problems at the beginning of the tune.

The band typically plays anywhere from 80 to 90 different songs during a typical Beacon (NYC) run. That's a pretty wide variety of tunes if you ask me. This year will be just a bit less since there are less shows.

That said, We've already got 3 new (old original and covers) songs to add this year which is really great! You have to have a nice balance at all times to keep the hard core, open-minded fans amused and the casual, less open-minded fans happy. I tend to concentrate on what we are hearing on a nightly basis, not what they "could be" playing. Remember, the Jams inside the old standards are always changing adding a nice freshness to songs that have been played for many years. That, is a good thing!

The first two definitely yes along with Nobody Knows. The last one? We hear it all the time including last night.

Very interested to see this one.

I am skeptical that this tune will work with this line up. Don't see how Derek can deal with this tune in an open E tuning plus the style that he plays seems a little too loose. Then again he is Derek Trucks and there is not much he can't do.

Will be interesting to see; hope I am wrong.
