Yeah I saw that. There is a good pitcher they are also courting. Selling them on the new park I guess. Good idea to go after Hispanic players since Ozzie can only speak English when he is swearing.

Papelbon to the Phillies for $50 million over 4 years. Phuck, that sucks for my Red Sox.

Might be a blessing is disguise; he just wasn't the same pitcher this year. Except for Mariano who was bitten by a vampire 15 years ago relievers tend to have a 6 year shelf life.

Ummm, he was actually one of the bright spots on the Sox staff this year. Nice bounce back after a subpar 2010. He will be missed in Boston.

Still not the unhittable closer he was a few years ago. A big improvement from last year, and I may be wrong, but not back to where he was

It looks like the Astros are indeed going to be moved over to the AL West, starting play in 2013....sucks out loud.

Houston is a National League town. Fifty years of NL history and decades before that as the Cardinals Double-A farm club (everybody from Dizzy Dean to Curt Flood passed through Houston) is apparently not enough to keep them in the NL. Selig is going to force the issue. If somebody goes it should be his Brewers, who have an AL history.

1978 (Bucky-effing-Dent), I could handle. 1986 (Bill-effing-Buckner), I could handle. 2003 (Aaron-effing-Boone), I could handle. 2011 (fried chicken eating mothereffers), I could handle. But this might cause me to root for another team...

Watney leaving NESN
Heidi Watney, the in-game reporter on NESN's Red Sox broadcasts since 2008, is leaving the network, industry sources have confirmed.

She is definitely a lot prettier than Babe Ruth was, I might say. And to think you were worried about Papleborn leaving

They need someone in the AL West. Milwaukee definately would have a problem with that...

I think for the first couple of years Houston will struggle in the AL. Going to be interesting to see how they prepare for the future with this move happening

Thrilled that Verlander won the MVP. I am shocked that it happened though.

I don't get Granderson only being fourth.

Ughhh. This is going to take some getting used to.

Red Sox select Bobby Valentine as manager

Nov 29, 2011 07:03 PM
By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

Robert John Valentine will be the 45th manager of the Boston Red Sox, the team selecting him within the last few hours.

No contract is in place. But Mike Lynch of Channel 5 is reporting that the Red Sox have a "verbal agreement" with Valentine to be their next manager.

Major league sources told Globe colleague Nick Cafardo just prior to that report that Valentine would be the next manager but a deal was not done.

Red Sox team sources, who have been fairly open about the process so far, would not comment on Lynch's report.

Valentine, 61, could be introduced as soon as tomorrow or Thursday.

More to come.

Hystrerical..

Bobby V lost his job in NY because he lost control of the team.

Now he is walking into THAT trainwreck?

Love it!

I told Cameron this morning that this will never work.

Glad to see Bobby V get the Boston job. Now I don't have to listen to him on ESPN.

Valentine is supposed to have the great baseball mind, but also has a reputation for irritating his players. There's a reason he hasn't managed in 10 years. I probably would have gone in another direction.

And also a temper. I don't think there would have been locker room drinking with Mr. V around. The players would have been ducking chairs during that collapse. The Bosox got him partly as a complacency antidote
